Overrated!!!

Dull, depressing, unlikely coircumstance (elvis in a nursing home with a growth on his penis), boring, unfunny, uninteresting, couldn't wait for it to end.

Now that you got that out of your system, now what? Are we supposed to post something hurtful and offensive in retaliation? Well, okay I will humor you.

Funny, and actually produced well...and some how still managed to slightly move me.

stfu, his opinion is appreciated by people who haven't seen it yet, thanks n-dig to let me know there are people out there who found this movie dull, boring, etc, don't mind people like nightmaremaker who will go berserker once someone expressed their opinion which doesn't matches his own

reply

Why don't you just watch it yourself and make up your own mind. You should care less whether other people find it boring or not.

Making a topic without a point, besides "the movie sucked", is flammable.

i wonder what you are doing on imdb then, since you don't care about other people's opinion about a movie, i thougth this site was all about, on what should i judge a movie to see then? like most idiots do: on the cover? i appreciated the comment but it seems to be a highly sensitive subject to dislike a movie around on imdb, even if it was just a brief comment

reply

Bruce Campbell plays an old run down Elvis, laying in a rest home waiting to die. Ozzie Davis plays a black JFK. Not enough weirdness for you, well how about a mummy dressed in cowboy duds who's haunting a rest home? This movie is fun, creative, and very well made.

It's funny.

reply

I think you have to be a fan of Bruce Campbell to truly enjoy this film.

reply

In response to Jezentz saying you probably have to be a fan of Bruce Campbell to enjoy this film... I'd never really heard of Bruce Campbell until I saw this, and I just enjoyed it for what it was

reply

likewise, although I am a fan now... because of this movie :D I really liked it. I think it's probably easy to misunderstand the premise (it might be Elvis, it might be some dude who just thinks he's Elvis - the point isn't about whether it is or it isn't, it's about being old and lonely, and unhappy, and how these two old guys take on something new and terrifying. They both used to be heroes - and are legendary in 'death' which makes life meaningless until they find a common goal. Whether you accept it as JFK and Elvis or as 2 guys who maybe are a sandwich or two short of a picnic makes no difference whatsoever) so I can see why some might think it's stupid, but I thought it was great - legendary even.

God damn is that obnoxious/unfunny/unclever/unoriginal. Do people really think they accomplish anything other than annoying people with the "liek zomg" routine? It is, in fact, more obnoxious than whichever person it's trying to send up.

I suffer from the delusion that my opinion matters... forgive me...

reply

Nice to see that there are other Leonard Cohen fans out there.

As for the movie, my first impression was "oh, another attempt to create a cult movie," and in some ways, that's pretty close to what it is. But it has a deeper side as well. To be honest, the 7-1/2-star rating is probably too high, but it's still worth a look.

reply

you can't dismiss it for having an unlikely circumstance cuz lots of films have pretty damn unlikely circumstances. I thought it was just an average B film and didn't really see what was so great about it, but at least it was funny in some parts.

reply

Well i still think it was dull and depressing, watching elderly people for an hour and a half. It just reminds you of where you're heading in years to come.

reply

I admit, that for some people this movie may seem dull and depressing, but for me, as a fan of Bruce Campbell since Evil Dead series, it was great. I think that Bruce's performance in this movie was as good as in Evil Dead 2, maybe even better.

reply

Good that you decided to leave the imdb boards to let people who actually something constructive to say debate this gem!!
What a dog!

reply

Bruce Campbell commented on this on a talk show. He was talking about how this is a TRUE B movie, while many of our "A" movies today are just overproduced B movies. He puts it much better than I care to go into on this message board, and makes a good point.

damn, this was a boring movie! After seing some comments here, and the 7.5/10(!!!) given, i expected so much more, because it had Bruce in, who is hilarious,. Don't know what is wrong with the people that say it's a excelent movie,...even steven segal movies are better. The best thing about it was the soundtrack

reply

If you think this movie is boring then you must not be very intelligent. Did u people even listen to the dialogue? It was brilliant, an original comedy that doesn't copy the likes of the bad comedies you see now a days. It is very entertaining. Bruce Campbell Rocks.

reply

oh, another idiot with the "not very intelligent" line. I am very intelligent, that's why I don't like it. Seriously, do you have a notebook with this stereothype reply lines? For a fact, i really like Bruce Campbell, the only reason why i saw the movie.

reply

If you put that awesome brainpower of yours to use you could probably come up with a small proof that you are very intelligent. Making a point saying: "you can't say you don't like the movie because you are not intelligent, because i'm am very intelligent and that is why i didn't like it." is detriment to people thinking you are able to walk and breathe at the same time.

At least check your spelling and grammar before making retorts about your own intelligence.

...if your hand touches metal I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you.

reply

I check my spelling and I can say that, as a fan of both Bruce Campbell and bad movies, this movie is awful. I'll post my negative review on here at some future point. Something for all of you to look forward to!

reply

...sentences shouldn't end with the word "to". Remember to check your grammar next time ;)

reply

...sentences shouldn't end with the word "to".

I'm ALWAYS interested in improving my grammar and spelling. What would be the proper way to word the sentence: "It's something to look forward to."

"It's something in which to look forward"? That seems pretty cumbersome.

This movie was Awesome. If you think of it as a film boot old people in a nursing home for an hour and half you cant have much respect for the elderly and its quite good how Joe landsdale wrote a book about it and how Don actually managed to make it into a film. Its one of the best movies of 2000 onwards and I dont know why it isnt snapped up into cinemas more.

Right You Primitive Screwheads Listen Up.See This?This...Is My BOOMSTICK!!

reply

I understand why some people finds this movie borring. It has a slow pace and it is not packed with action and horror.

Personally I think it is great! It might seem booring to some, cause a lot of the movies true qualities does not lie in the action and horror, but in the dialouge. Cambells voiceover were exelent and hillarious. The acting was superb, and the story was imaginative and original.

The opening sequence, with Cambell as Elvis in the bed, with the following voiceover had me laughing for days:

"I was dreamin'. Dreamin' my dick was out and I was checkin' to see if that infected bump on the head of it had filled with pus again. If it had, I was gonna name it after my ex-wife Priscilla and bust it by jackin' off. Or I'd like to think that's what I'd do. Dreams let you think like that. Truth was, I hadn't had a hard-on in years."

Looking forward to the Prequel, Bubba Nosferatu!

reply

Yeah, it's a slow-paced movie, but you have to give it credit for being really original and well put together.

It has a very down to earth approach that makes it seem like it could almost happen.

It's not part of the super-slick, painfully cool *beep* that hollywood normally churns out. It's something solid and unique.

I fully agree Triple. I didn't find out about this movie until I saw it on a store shelf and my brother later told me about it. I rented it and found it to be one of the most unexpected surprises I can remember finding in a movie. Not only does Bruce Campbell deliver an amazing performance, but the soundtrack, dialogue, etc. were all spectacular, especially considering the movie's budget! (look into Trivia to find out about that)

reply

Overrated!!! BS, man! While I can understand why this movie is not for everyone, and why some people just won't get it, I LOVE THIS FLICK! Bruce IS Elvis, and Ossie Davis comes off wonderfully. But more to the point, this movie is not really a horror movie. It's more about old age and the way life starts to look when there's not much of it left. So, yes, if you are looking for a good horror movie, this ain't the one. But if you'd like something just a bit out there, with enough heart and soul (pun intended ) to leave you actually caring about the caracters in it, give this one a chance. It's worth it.

P.S. If you liked this movie, you might also want to read some of Joe R. Landsdale's work. He wrote the short story this movie is based off of, and his work often strikes a chord that is very similar to the film. I recommend A Thin Dark Line.

Bring me the head of Uwe Boll!!!

reply

I knew when i watched it alot of die hard bruce fans would not like it becuase it is something different to him , although still a cult movie its more in depth and is not focussed on slapstick and horror comedy elements. Its a drama with a thriller twist, it is a very moving film and im sure the director didnt mean to disapoint any of you in not getting what you expected from bruce , but please dont let typecasting overshadow what truley is a well made movie.

you really need to look past who is in it and apreciate it for what it is. If you don't apreciate it and you don't like it becuase its not your cup of tea then fine that's understandable as well , doesn't mean your less intellegent. You were simply expecting something else.

and yes thetruecell Uwe Boll is terrible
