Eating crap

Dominic kept complaining that all of his coworkers were eating "crap" at the meetings - was I the only one who was waiting for him to bring in fresh bread or biscotti for eveyone? I thought that would have been a nice, if somewhat cheesy, touch. Overall, I enjoyed this movie a lot!

The thought occurred to me too, but only briefly. This movie had a lot of symbolism throughout, and his corporate job was very symbolic in the story, as it provided him with money and prestige, but offered no substance, and threatened to rob him of his humanity. The people around the boardroom table were one-dimensional caricatures that represented the toxic spiritual environment of his work. They had no compassion as they gleefully plotted their mergers, no sympathy for the people they were about to have fired. The fact that they couldn’t perceive that they were eating “crap” showed their lack of discernment; the toxic food they were eating was a logical extension of the pigs he had come to see. To bring them food would have been casting his pearls before swine.

Well put, fiveoaks. I totally agree.
And just to touch on one other thing here on the message boards, I am really surprised at the negative comments about this film. I saw it several years ago and it made me want to bake bread in the middle of the night! And it re-ignited my childhood crush on Scott Baio. I just thought to check on it here and can't believe how people are ripping it. I think it is sweet and small and I bought it on DVD and have watched it often. The brothers are so good together and the relationships are all nicely drawn and detailed. I loved it and recommend it to people frequently.

waannief,
Please don't let the negative comments get under your skin. I feel a little sorry for people who can't let a lovely film like this one just wash over them and through them.

I have loaned my DVD to an Italian friend and I can't wait to hear her response to it. The people in this film are like her in so many ways that I'm certain that it will make her feel right at home.
