Season 1 available on DVD

Guys... Check German Amazon (amazon.de) for "Glory Days". There is a *FOUR* DVD release, I assume it's the whole season - and yes, it does have English 2.0 Surround track. I have ordered mine, but not sure how fast it's gonna come here to Poland (and Babelfish translation - for registration on German Amazon - came really handy this time ;)

I checked it out, the only time four years of German has ever been useful to me, and then I checked it out on the American one. Supposedly it's coming out soon in the US. I'm so happy about this, thanks for posting about it. I miss this show.

Hi my friend in Germany sent me the Glory Days boxset- god bless her! It's 9 episodes, and there is an english language option, though this has to be selected via dvd options.

To be honest I have a feeling only 9 episodes were made- a lot of TV guides tell me there were 10, but according to these "Clowning Glory" and "Cirque de So Dead" aired on the same evening. I reckon, because of the clown/circus themed title of both episodes, they are both the same episode, but it just had alternative titles, and this has been confused as being 2 seperate episodes.

If I'm right then yep, the German boxset has every aired episode. Gosh that took a long time!

I too have the dvd box set that I ordered from Amazon Germany. It has all 9 episodes produced. Has German 5.1, 2.0 and English 2.0 soundtrack. It also has a biography on Kevin Williamson and trailers for other EMS dvds. It cost me $45 (US) and that included the shipping charge by German post and only took about a week to get here (I live in Missouri). With the help of Babelfish translating the website to English, I was able to get my order placed with no troubles at all. I am so happy that I finally have this series...I wish it would have lasted longer. That's ok, because Jay R. Ferguson (Sheriff Rudy)is now on Surface which I enjoy just as much!

Just rec'd my boxed set from Germany as discussed above. It will not play on my DVD player. Called customer service & was informed I need a DVD player with PAL. Can I get one here in the states? Should I return the DVD's to Amazon.Germany? How are you playing these DVD's? Help!

reply

You need a dvd player with a pal converter. The thing is there aren't suppsoed to be sold in the US. But they are all the time.

I bought a Norcent DP220 for $35 US at a store here in South Florida called Brandsmart. They have big signs saying their dvd players are all region 1. They are but the Chinese don't make two one for the US and one for China. They just have a lazy software disable. All you have to do to get it to work is setup-choose screen format pal or ntsc change to pal let the screen go all sqiggly and then reselect ntsc-bang it works. You do have ot do that with every pal title but who cares for $35 bucks. Besides most dvds you'll watch are NTSC so it is a good default. There is also a multiregion hack to play all region dvds very easily done through the remote.

I would check out this site:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=coby+dvd+615&Search=Search&country=&orderby=Name&hits=25&Submit2=Search

Go to your local electronics store, especially if you ahve any regional chains local to your area. A store like that will be much more likely to have these players than a Bestbuy. Then right down the name and model numbers and check out that site and look for NTSC PAL converters.

Thanks for your help. I was about to box up and return when a European co-worker informed me that I could buy these DVD players here. Said she picked up one in K Mart since she gets DVD's from home. Did not know I could just pay a converter. I'll let U know how I make out!

The number of episodes made is under debate. Some sources claim 13 were produced, while others insist that it was only 10. The European DVDs (see below) contain 7 – 9 episodes. So things are still unclear.

Glory Days is clearly inspired by David Lynch’s and Mark Frost’s 1990/1991 TV series, Twin Peaks. There are also similarities with creator Kevin Williamson’s other show, the much more successful Dawson’s Creek (the coastal small town setting, the character types, and the dialogue are all indicative of Williamson’s style and Dawson’s Creek scripts in particular).

Glory Days has not yet been released on DVD in the USA. It is, however, available on Region 2/PAL DVDs in Europe.

In most European countries (including the United Kingdom and Ireland) it is released under the DVD title Demontown with 7 episodes edited into three feature-length parts: Demontown (episodes 1, 2 & 3), Demontown II (episodes 4 & 5), and Demontown III (episodes 6 & 7). Each part is available as three separate straight-to-DVD ‘movies’.

In the Netherlands, Demontown is available as a 2-disc DVD set with all three parts included (Demontown and Demontown II on disc one, and Demontown III on disc two).

Another European DVD release to note: In Germany, the episodes were available with the original title Glory Days. The DVD boxset was sold on www.amazon.de but appears to be currently out of print. According to sources, this set contains 9 episodes on 3 discs.

This is all I know and have found out. Would appreciate any other posts? Does anyone own the German edition? I own the Dutch one mentioned above.

Thanks for the info but unless they have the unaired episodes too I am not interested and also I don't even buy Canadian DVD's so why would I buy this set?
Yes if Amazon Canada had all 13 ep of this show available for sale, I would definitely buy it.

reply

Okay, so wanting to buy this set, but now can only seem to find it from Amazon Germany, used.

Before committing to anything, I want to be 100% sure that this is infact the complete season.
The running time that they have for it listed, just doesn't seem to make sense.
And does it have the pilot ep?
Because if you look on Amazon UK, under "Demontown" you will find a DVD, that by the looks of it is only the pilot.
I never got to see the show, as it was never on here in Australia, but it does look pretty cool, and it has some of my fave actors in it.
So any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks, Kiki.
