Watched the first 8 eps of S1 Does it get any better?

As someone who enjoyed the 1983 film I thought I'd finally give the tv series a go.

However after a full 8 episodes in I'm wondering if I should carry on.

It's so bland, the stories are mostly average, and apart from Anthony Michael Hall and David Ogden Stiers the other actors are totally forgettable.

I like the premise, always have done, but I need more excitement, more twists and turns.

Should I persist, or am I better off watching another show, there's plenty of other well-liked series to catch up on :)
