why did lightening jack (the biological dad) take so long to tell?

Teddy met him at the rememberance event...jack didn't reveal he was the father.
Teddy went to his home to confront him...jack didn't reveal.
Teddy sat around a campfire...jack didn't reveal...

It wasn't until Teddy found the photo...then jack changed his story. I just don't get it. Why didn't he come out and say 'i loved your mother...but we weren't prepared for a child'?

You mean Thunder Jack.

Because he still wasn't ready to be a father and admitting to being one would make it more real and would entail feelings and responsibilities he didn't want.
