... Contains an early 2000s pop ballad? I get that it's supposed to be a student written musical, but this is just so incredibly corny.

If I remember correctly, in the book, the play is actually a Christmas play that they do every year and Jaime is the one that plays the angel. I believe that the kiss does actually happen, but I can't remember if it is after the main song.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE. FYI, It's on Netflix.

Anachronism is often used for artistic effect. The movie 'A Knights Tale' set in the 14th century used a 20th soundtrack and it worked quite well.

It is getting more common for anachronistic music being used in plays.
