How many leukemia patients are that pretty?

I really wish they had been more realistic with the physical realities of someone suffering with leukemia. I know the obvious answer is that this is Hollywood, and the leading ladies have to look pretty despite their circumstances. But the point of the story was that Landon fell in love with her heart and mind. It would have been way more powerful if she was weak in the wheelchair (like in the book) and had lost her hair.

Having treatment for leukemia is not a pretty sight but Hollywood makes it look more presentable than it is in real life.

It's that man again!!

Chemotherapy is what makes you lose your hair not the cancer itself. People with leukaemia can function relatively well up until a month before their death. My aunt was out and about with a full head of hair up to a month before she suddenly deteriorated and passed away in a hospice and she was in her late 50's.

It's not mentioned if Jaime underwent chemo but Landon's voice over says that they spent a great summer before she went. For all we know it could have been a summer in a wheelchair.

In my own opinion Jaime's sickness was part of the plot and not the spine of the plot itself. Landon had already proven his devotion; it was already sufficiently powerful.

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

My Mom died of leukemia at age 34. Up until she was tested (she had headaches), she didn't even know she had it. She was gone within a couple months, but it was the chemotherapy that made her weak. She wasn't strong enough for it.
