anyone think the fight would of been better WITHOUT the gloves?
bit of a shame they had to change the rules. great film none the less.
No because the fight wouldnt have lasted as long !!

In the movie, Iceman's manager clearly explains why it's best to use gloves, not only for the fight but also for Iceman:
- Hand damage: it's very easy to break your hand in a fistfight, especially between boxers who are trained to receive jabs with their foreheads.
- Face damage: nobody will be able to take more than a few punches before being unable to continue for sheer damage.
- Fear of damage: in light of the first two, boxers who don't wear gloves throw very few punches. Nothing more boring than that, and a boring fight equals a low betting fight.
Iceman's manager uses the last argument to drive the point home, since the mobsters don't care whether Monroe breaks his hands or loses an eye. But they do care about money.
And the manager sure cares about making sure Iceman comes out of jail in one piece, not all busted up and crippled due to fighting with no gloves.
As it stands the fight was not long enough. I want the final fight in a movie like this to be EPIC. It should have been several rounds longer and really bloody with both fighters getting more and more hurt and exhausted until Monroe finally ekes out his win.
This one was only 3 and a half rounds. Even 2 more rounds would have made a huge difference.
