It's his breakdown in front of the door near the end of the film. Some of the most accurate and stark statements about the faults in relationships, and losing them, I've seen on film.

That's my favorite scene in the whole movie. Perfectly written, acted, and directed.

Igby is so vulnerable and he has never "turned off" despite the emotional void he has grown up within, nor given up on having a full and fulfilling life. One can't help but be drawn to that tenacity of spirit and to sympathize, even empathize, with him.

I wish that Burr Steers would have included a few key scenes with Ollie too. They flesh out Ollie's own pain and struggles with his upbringing.

If you have the DVD and listen to the commentary and watch the deleted scenes you'll learn that BS thought it would have compromised the focus of the film. I can't agree since the scenes are short and blend in rather well. I wish he had just gone for it...this film slipped through the cracks as it was, so why not make it the best you can and not try to prejudge the audience?

However, I do love this film.
