The Spoon with Poison

*** SPOILER ****

What's the purpose of the shot of it lying under Mimi's deathbed after it's remade?

reply

Nothing.

A simple way to show the complete lack of concern regarding Mimi's death even by her own maid (who Mimi had earlier been shown trying to suffocate.) Mimi will not be missed, despite the ornate funeral that follows, except, perhaps, for the one son who was actually is the most like her in nature, if not in lifestyle.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it. RIP Roger Ebert

Credible answer, but movie tradition would more likely suggest that the spoon could be evidence of a crime, in an ensuing investigation into the circumstances of Mimi's death, and my own first reaction was that that was a plot strand that -- understandably -- wound up on the cutting-room floor.

reply

It's a moot shot- just to set the tone.

reply

I think it was just something to link the beginning and the end

reply

As a link or a moot shot, I still think it breaks the integrity and flow of the story, which would be better off without it.
