Igby

I just watched this movie and I really try to get into the story and all, but overall, I didn't like it. I thought that Igby was a major pain in the ass, didn't feel sorry for him for a second. I didn't care at all about his character.

You wouldn't be the first to say that. I, on the other hand, immediately felt a draw toward this young man who refuses to be slotted and categorized as merely the son from a wealthy family. But it's not like he is choosing to be difficult. He is acting instinctively, paddling as hard as he can to keep his head above water, all the while acting the fool to disguise it.

Both Igby and his brother are victims of their upbringing. Each has coped in different ways. Ollie has shut down emotionally and Igby is pure raw emotion. Watching them interact is fascinating to me.

"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."

I love what you said there. I was also fascinated by their interaction. Both of them were excellent in this.

While I agree somewhat with your intelligent comments, aGuiltySoul, I was only lukewarm on this movie, and to me Igby seemed like a bit of a spoiled brat. And while I can understand him disliking his mother, I couldn't understand his intense hatred.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, or doesn't.

reply

So you think he hated his mother?

I can't agree.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

Sorry, off topic...
Love your signature! But shouldn't it be:
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, OR doesn't. ?
lol
Good one! Made me laugh! Thanks! =)

I guess you have to be the person this film is about. I don't, so it sucked.
