Crimping iron?

I don't know, it's been awhile since I've used one.

I used to get my hair this way by washing my hair and while it was still wet I would do medium sized braids throughout my entire hair. It gives it the same wavy look.

You can get a type of crimping iron that just has 3 wide prongs to make that sort of beachy wavy look, that may be how they did it.

It's a perm. I graduated High School in 2002 and this was a really popular look with a lot of girls at my school.

They also want to make Danes, who is not Jewish, be able to look like a quintessential "Jap" (Jewish American Princess), as Igby refers to her, and the curly hair helps.

It's probably not a traditional perm, like another poster said, but a wet & set, or some call it a fake perm. It's something I picked up from doing styles mainly for children for weddings. You want those beautiful ringlets, but obviously don't want a chemical perm, and curling irons can burn fidgety little ones who can't sit still, not to mention it's hard to get curls to last in fine hair most Littles have. So, you prep the hair with styling product of choice (mousse, gel, etc), then set it damp in perm rods and put under the dryer. Ta-da beautiful, chemical free ringlets that last days (or until next shampoo)! =) I'm sure Claire wouldn't have committed to a chemical perm.
