much ado about nothing

average and not very suspenseful. 6/10.

i guess it wasn't supposed to be suspensful, hence the detective work was barely shown in the movie. it's more about the characters and the human drama.

Superb, smart, intricate film which improves with subsequent viewings. One of Altman’s greatest achievements, and one of the best films of the 2000s. I’m a huge fan. 9/10

I'm glad you say this. I saw GP with a friend when it was new.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm a bit of a naif when it comes to the cinematic experience, as I also greatly enjoyed The English Patient and The Fountain, films often derided as being dull and self-serious.
I liked Gosford partly because it was much different than what might have been expected, and I heard Altman was loved by his actors. I really concentrated on Gosford Park, and that alone made it worthwhile.
But my friend didn't enjoy it and claimed to know the solution to the crime early on.
I told her that wasn't the point of the movie.
