Overlong, empty, aimless and Ryan Phillippe.

I had such an excruciating time watching this. It just feels like one long film of multiple simultaneous conversations that seem like it's going somewhere, but ultimately doesn't. 2hrs 17min of barely audible spontaneous conversations with no clear direction. And Ryan Phillippe's accent is absolutely horrendous. Even when he's not speaking he's pretty bad.

His Scottish accent was supposed to be bad, which is why some of the servants commented on how odd is accent was. He was an American actor trying to play a Scottish valet among the servants, but his performance was not very good.

I know but his bad accent gave his intentions away.

I thought Philippe was adequate. Of the wonderful ensemble the only one who grated a little was Stephen Fry, who seemed to have strutted in from the set of a Blackadder sequel and played against the general tone.
