The USSR's role in manufacturing the allegations against Pius XII

Amen is loosely based on German playwright, Rolf Hochhuth's "The Deputy" (1963), which successfully turned Pius XII into a villain.

An article by Ion Mihai Pacepa, a high-level Romanian intelligence agent who defected to the West, reveals the Soviet Union's role in spreading the allegations against the Vatican in order to discredit the Catholic Church, which opposed its rule in Eastern Europe.

The Soviet Union was well aware of the concentration camps but did little to overrun them. Stalin's anti-semitism ill disposed him to intervene in behalf of the Jews.

How much access did Ion Mihai Pacepa have to KGB or NKWD ? Where Ceaucescu's relations to Stalin, or the later soviet rulers that close, to get such vital intelligence ? You have to be careful with such information.
