terrible

There were so many bad parts of this movie. Did Winona even read the script? She couldn't have been that desperate. I really wish someone would have told me it was terrible before I saw any of this trash.

I agree. The movie was weak in terms of comedy.

winona made the movie worse

I agree. I think Winona Ryder and Adam Sandler tried their best but in my opinion it just wasn't funny and they had very little chemistry. Plus, perhaps it's me but I think the girl-falling-for-assignment has been done to death. I really didn't like it, although I think the actors tried their best. Two or maybe three out of ten. The only time I laughed even a little was when Babe/Pam was making all those To Kill A Mockingbird references, and when she fell under the ice I thought that it was just unbelievably cheesy; the fight with the cook (I'm not too sure who she was) when Babe returned to Deeds' hometown and had to fight the cook woman to get past her. I was screaming: "YOU SHOULD BE UNCONSCIOUS!" at several moments

watching this movie makes me think Sandler got together with all of his dumb ass buddies and said "you know what? we should make the world's most terrible movie!"

part of it is how Adam Sandler (in all of his movies, it seems) is obsessed with letting people know he's a "good guy." he probably feels that way in real life too, but he's too introverted to act out all of his "good guy" fantasies. it also bugs me how many well known actors were in this. it probably put a strain on all of their careers.

the Sandler Pack was obviously trying to outdo previous achievements, but they fell short as usual. no one can beat Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. the only other Sandler flicks i liked were the two he did with Drew Barrymore, but probably only because she was the leading lady in those.

Mr. Deeds.. thumbs down. i can't believe i paid a dollor for this!

Yeah it was pretty lame. IMO Adam Sandler is like Jim Carey, he plays different characters in exactly the same way. He always talks like a little boy when he's being romantic with a girl, the scene where he drew the picture of the linguini was stupid and then Winona Ryder did her best Drew Barrymore crying and it stank. I use to like Adam Sandler movies too, until I realised his acting range is very limited (mostly around toilet humour).

Totally agreed: this film wicked sucked.

I totally agree -- the movie SUCKED.

I agree Captain Bob! The writers of these movies just use the SAME ideas over and over, making Adam Sandler a superhero. In reality, he probably couldn't harm a fly. It seems the dumber the script is with more stupid slapstick, the bigger laugh it gets.

I think some characters had potential to be funny in my opinion (crazy eyes) and they are some really good actors in this movie! I thought Peter Gallagher played the layer in The OC terrifically but this movie was beyond stupid. I mean a lot of adam sandler movies are stupid but lovably funny like big daddy but this was just had NO realm of reality too it? I mean I have to believe that despite what some people say most everyone is interested in money at least a little bit...

reply

Potential is exactly all that it had. But it's a shame that it was wasted. I think Adam Sandler actually could have made a good choice for an update of the original story, but they went beyond updating and added a lot of nonsense that didn't improve the story or make it fit the times. They just made it stupid. They didn't have to, because Sandler has shown in the past an ability to play a low-key, regular guy with a cocky, amused air. When he doesn't overdo it, the chump is downright likable. But like a lot of comics, he seems to think sillier is funnier.

Worst Adam Sandler movie I have ever seen. Saying it was cringeworthy is like saying Las Vegas is a truck stop in the desert.

Winona did this movie right after her shoplifting scandal. So, I think she was looking for some kind of redemption/comeback with this movie.

reply

I didn't think it was terrible; just very , very ordinary and predictable. I am surprised that: (a) It cost so much to make. It doesn't look like a really expensive film.
(b) It ended up making money.

reply

Actually, it was before. This movie led to her shoplifting because she broke her arm during the scene where they ride bikes down the stairs. She got addicted to painkillers and had a breakdown and shoplifted. So yeah, don't talk about things you don't know about.

reply

I quite liked it.

Something I've noticed is a good percentage of people that REALLY bash movies don't have any ratings on their profile. I can't imagine why!!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!
