Just saw this movie yesterday. (I saw it when it was released back in 2002.) I really don't understand why this movie is hated by many. It's a exceptionally good movie. This is perhaps Chris Rock's best role ever. Every other role he has been in is just a mirror or caricature of his true self. The only part I don't like is when he was trying to stall when testing the bomb and he started talking about Dr. Dre and Shaq attack, etc.

Hopkins was fantastic. Of course, his fight scenes might have been choreographed & edited a little better.

And do not forget the great cinematography and the compelling musical score is a masterpiece.

I just had the same experience. I remember seeing it in theaters when it dropped and enjoying it but never realized how really great it was until I watched it again today.

Glad I own the DVD.
