Still didn't understand the ending (spoilers)

I understand that we were suppose to hate Steve but I didn't see how he was so arrogant. In my opinion Daric and Virgil were way more arrogant. They always thought they were better than everyone considering what they did as a night job. Otherwise why would they carry a gun around and threaten people.

Steve's comment on Daric having something up his *** made sense because Daric hated him just because he is rich. Steve had his arrogance under control and if you disagree talk to someone in real life with the same social status. They always talk down to you as though you are uneducated.

I could understand why Steve wouldn't go to any of the school functions because maybe he hated those things but didn't want Stephanie to miss out. Plus he knew Ben liked Stephanie but didnt give him a hard time about it.

In my opinion, I think Daric brainwashed them into thinking Steve is arrogant by putting words in their mouth and saying that Steve talked down to them. In the end I think Daric is the guy they should have taken out for being a prick. Why dont anyone question why he never answered Ben when he asked why he published that article?

I do get that Ben basically killed him in an irrational state

I don't think that the movie was trying to portray Steve as a complete one-dimensional douchebag, and I think we are meant to see that Steve does have his nice side. However, Daric would not have had to "brainwash" Ben into thinking that Steve's an arrogant prick. Steve is rich, he's got the girl that Ben loves, and he cheats on that girl and takes her for granted. It is very easy to see why Ben would be jealous and resentful of Steve.

Daric is a clinical sociopath, and I think the movie intentionally portrays him as such. But he's one of Ben's team, and he's not the one competing with Ben for the same girl.

As for Virgil, he wasn't "arrogant." He had serious issues with immaturity, mental health and emotional problems.

But the thing is, even if the other boys carried guns, it was Ben who actually "pulled the trigger".....

Ben was the one who crossed the line.....the others it was a matter of time, but was surprised it was Ben who snapped first.

reply

Again...why do people keep saying BEN killed Steve? Ben did NOT kill Steve! Steve was still alive after Ben beat him with the baseball bat. DARIC killed Steve by suffocating him, with Virgil's help.

You are close. Virgil killed Steve at Daric's urging. That's why Virgil attempted suicide.

Watta ya lookn here for?

Daric was the only truly unlikable character in the film, imo. Sure Steve was a cocky snob and Virgil was an annoying brat... but Daric was obviously a conniving sociopath and the most dangerous of them all, as evidenced by his carrying out of Steve's murder without flinching. He then had the nerve to go sit with Stephanie at the party and be all flirty immediately afterward.

I was so disappointed in Ben. Apparently I should have seen it coming but I hoped that he would turn himself around. Virgil? Yeah, Virgil waving a gun around, I wanted the idiot to die...I didn't want Steve to be killed.

Is it possible that Steve planned on killing his parents, during the robbery?

reply

I really don't think Steve wanted his parents to get hurt, just shaken up and "woken up". There was no indication he actually wanted to harm anything other than maybe their finances.
