So bad

maybe it's because I went in with such low expectations after hearing so many bad things about it, but I didn't think that Legends was as bad as it's made out to be. don't get me wrong, it's certainly not as good as Babylon 5 series or the other TV/DVD movies (that I've seen so far at least, I'm watching in chronological order so I still have Call To Arms, Crusade, Voices In The Dark & Sleeping In Light to watch) but it had some good characters and showed some potential
there were some faults, some of the dialogue was cheesey, the VR weapon control was both impractical and rather than being visually spectacular like they probably wanted it just looked absurd. The Hand also seemed a little too much like a recycling of the Shadows but to be fair on that point, after the terror the Shadows spread in the not so long before there are certainly worse ideas than trying to pass yourself off as something similar to them in order to scare up some allies and perhaps had the series been picked up they could have been fleshed out into an interesting enemy

I don't think they made the wrong choice in not picking it up for a series, although I do think a series might have worked, but I do think that it's being judged too harshly because it failed to live up to the extremely high standards of the predecessor series. after all, it's better than a lot of the sci-fi we've had in the last decade or so (note that I said "a lot" and not "all", I'm quite aware that there have been some excellent sci-fi shows and movies but equally aware that there have been many abysmal ones as well)

overall I'd say that it falls somewhere between "watchable" and "interesting", nothing special but not to be avoided either. if you're a fan of Babylon 5 and haven't seen it yet (maybe because of all the bad reviews), my advice is to give it a try if you get the chance, even if only so you can make up your own mind
