Good Movie

I watched this movie again the other night on Cable. The story is pretty good and despite some weak casting there is some good acting in it. I think what I like most about the film is that's set on Ash Wednesday and in Hell's Kitchen. Ash Wednesday is a very solemn day in the Catholic Church, nothing fancy about it and it's the beginning of Lent which is a solemn period of time before Easter. The early 80s were not great times for NYC coming out of the 70s when it damn near went bankrupt. But it's not far off until things took off again in NYC in the mid to late 80s into the 90s. It's also the set in the last days of Hell's Kitchen really being Hell's Kitchen. In '86 ground was broke on the Javitz Center which significantly impacted the neighborhood. Kind of an interesting time to set this story.
