This Can't be the real ending

Something doesn't add up. I have a feeling that the writer had a completely different ending and somewhere along the line, people wanted the "happy" ending.

First of all, the boyfriend is a shallow character of which we know very little. We have no idea if he really is a good match for her or not. Through the movie he ends up getting tired of her in the relationship and you begin to feel that they will end up breaking up and Amy will write a new book about it. Particular scenes are the bed scene where he's no longer interested and any scene after that until her final speech at Woman's March. It would have made more sense for them to break off, the guy used her or at least gave it a chance and the movie ends on a highlight of Amy writing another best seller. Happy ending! Yay.

Here's an entire scene that adds to my theory. The scene when the priest tells her that he was fired. That scene wasn't needed in the movie UNLESS they end up dating! I believe the movie was supposed to end with the two of them going out for a cup of coffee and really opening up. Follow up reasons: Amy's complaints about the lack of communication and confessions about past lives with boyfriend. This is easily done with priest. 2nd, the writer made a big deal about stating the Amy is looking for a jewish guy. Was the boyfriend jewish? Didn't come up. But we do know that the priest was catholic.

So there you have it. Flat boyfriend character and sudden super love ending just doesn't feel write with the tone of the end middle of the movie.

He was getting tired of her behavior. He wasn't tired of "her" persay.

He may not have been tired of her but the relationship was not working. The character plot all seemed to lead up to Amy ending up with the preacherman. Why was he fired! He could have said the exact same thing he said to her in the end in the confession booth! And let's face it, the guy she ended up with was a smuck. He had nothing running for him! The plot of the movie is really failing since whole chapters of the movie add so little to the dimension of the film. I for one did not care the least for her agent, for her friends (the couple) and so on. Also, the brother of Amy's boyfriend is supposed to be a contrast to him but they could have done so much more with small character's like him. All of Amy's conversations with her parents were annoying. All the arguments against her book where based on little logic and never did anyone really test her philosophy, people only irritated her. Well, I guess I am just a bit irritated that I spent my time watching this film when I really should have been studying.

I agree 100% that the priest was the one Amy was supposed to hook up with in the end. It all pointed in that direction-including running into the priest after he was "fired"....would have made a much better ending also~

I think Julie Davis is an excellent writer/director/actor and she hit the mark on this movie-which I caught last night on Showtime. Some of the late night Showtimes flicks are soooo BADDDDDD, and every now and then you hit a good movie.... like this one.....and is is a nice break from mindless garbage like "Boardheads".....

Well, if she was looking for a jewish boyfriend, why the heck would she want a catholic boyfriend?!

i think all her movies have the same "happy" ending but it's the journey the characters take to get there that's so ingenious. you need to see her other movie "i love you, don't touch me." maybe, if we all get through the maze of life, we will find our "happy endings" too!
