the women's march speech (spoilers)

What's up with that? I think that was lame and cheap writing. Men do complete women? WTF? Was that supposed to make me feel good? I mean, I liked the movie until that point. I understand characters should develop but not like that, please. I felt like I lost a very good time watching something that at the end had no sense.

I think a better line, especially in the context of her lesiban publicist who had just found somebody, is that LOVE completes a woman. I know I feel as though a part of me is missing without it.

reply

yes, I think love completes us, but it doesn't have to be sexual love; many people find satisfaction in life by loving and helping others but sexual love is not for everyone. But that's beside the point- I have nothing against love.

I just worry about this type of film that are supposedly about and for women but are just a lame and cheap way to tell us- women- that we all need men in our lives to be happy- a fact that's not true for so many women. That last speech destroyed the movie.... all Amy had to do was to tell us that she herself could reconcile her (anti) feminist beliefs with her falling in love with a man. She didn't do that.

As more as I think about it, more I realize the ideas behind the movie are tragically anti women. But I can't entirely trash the movie because I think it has good actresses and actors and there were some important and valid points about what love could mean for a stable relationship - of course I'm thinking of Mitchell Whitfield and Jennifer Bransford who were great on this film.

The fact that you took the time to write that is somewhat of a cry for help. Women do need men to be happy and you're not getting much of that, as far as I can assume. Yes, "sexual" love.

reply

Oh, don't you worry. I'm getting the men alright. Didn't Amy tell you? Men find the women who hate them very very sexy. (And I'm also getting the love 'cause I have a puppy, you know).

vera baby-you're my kind of chick...........can I be your puppy?????

But for the record, men DO NOT find women who hate them >>>very very sexy<<<...nice try......you have been hanging with the wrong "men"...you need me sweety.

Wmen need men to be happy? The only 2 things a man can do that a woman can't are pee standing up (what a useful talent!) and ejaculate prematurely. Explain why we need that to be happy. I believe that love is a wonderful thing that anyone is lucky to find, but not that anyone needs it. In fact, some of the happiest people in the world are those who have learned to be happy without a significant other.

There is no happily ever after...one person almost always dies first.

LOL.....what you said.

When you see women poo-poo-ing men, it's often because they lack one...or at least a decent one.

Btw...the opposite is true too about men who are bitter about women. Think Edward Rochester in Jane Eyre

btw...I thought Miss Davis was mighty pretty, I can't imagine her having had trouble getting dates. I was surprised to read her history, I thought she was an actress.

reply

Well, tudormon is it the same the other way around? Do men also need women to be happy?

But seriously, I find all of this BS, I don't have a man, and I am perfectly happy. And no, I don't think the op was a "cry for help" at all, they were just pointing out the ridiculousness of it all, and it is. The whole line didn't make sense because what about gay women?

Yes, this speech was cut from a different cloth as the rest of this brilliant film. It was as if it was put in the make a shot at the mass market audience, and simply negated everything that went before.

It's a shame. Because other than that, it was an enjoyable, stimulating film.
