they certainly do not hide the fact that they are in british columbia. as you stated, at the beginning, the husband mentions that he's taking the family to WHISTLER (british columbia) for the weekend. any mention of portland is simply in reference to a place where something occured, not a place where any of the characters are now.
it is NOT a "canadian movie filmed under the guize [sic] of USA." in fact, it's a runaway production filmed in british columbia due to the low costs / dollar value and tax credits received.
