Yes, the original book is called 24 hours. And the charchters name was Huey, not Marvin. As for the last part, the book ends with Will, Karen, and Abby in the FBI helicopter. Will DID say to the State Trooper that he (meaning Huey) didn't belong in county jail, but a hospital for a mental evalutaion. No mention of a trial of anything. It was assumed that Will would testify on behalf of Cheryl, though, for her help in saving Abby.
