Are there any movies where Kevin Bacon plays a good guy?

Just as an alternative are there any movies where Kevin Bacon plays a good guy?

reply

Lol! Quite a few - he's just so good at playing the bad guy that those overshadow the good guy movies. Apollo 13 comes to mind. Also Murder in the First (he's kind of both in that movie, but you sympathize with him). A Few Good Men is another one - you don't root for him, but he's not a bad guy.

he's waaaay better as a bad guy. disgusting he's never won an oscar, yet that fat disgusting jennifer hudson or whatever gets one. figure that out!

I agree with you. I think he's a great actor and while I haven't seen a lot of his films there was one I'll never forget where he played a sadistic prison guard for young boys. He was completely disgusting in that role, how could you have not wanted that bastard to get punished for the sexual abuse he put those 4 boys through. Kevin Bacon was very believable, I hated him! Great, great actor.

If Apollo 13 had been written by the person who scripted this movie, then Jack Swigert (Bacon) would have [Apollo 13 Spoilers!] sabotaged the oxygen tanks, in revenge for his friend and co-conspirator Ken Mattingly missing out on the moonshot because [he thought] Jim Lovell's daughter had given him German Measles!

I might do that..... Could be interesting.

'80s movies are stuffed with Bacon playing the good guy. I agree, he deserved an Oscar for "Murder in The First" - stunning performance. When you think of people like deCaprio getting a nom for Blood Diamond you really have to wonder whether the Academy voters have all their marbles intact. At least his peers recognised his amazing work in MITF - he received a SAG Best Actor nom for it. And he's very very good in "Taking Chance".

In 'The Air Up There' he's a good guy who grows a lot during the film.

No, in fact one of his earlier roles has him as a teenager who moves to some midwestern farm town where he becomes nothing but trouble to the local pastor (played by that Third Rock forehead-guy) who is only trying to keep the local teens away from drugs, STD's, unwanted pregnancy, delinquency, jail, etc.
Bacon's character advocates teen smoking and drinking (he drinks beer as an underage kid, dancing around to some cheesey music pumping from his VW bug while he dances like some bipolar case).
In the end he twists some obscure verse from one of the books of Samuel to prove that what he's doing is right, and the poor old pastor, also under pressure from his wife and delinquent daughter (who is sleeping with half the seniors in her High School) relents; the name of the film is "Footloose".
Definately no appropriate for kids under 21 because of the wrong lessons it teaches! (Shalamar, "Dancing in the Sheets", advocating bad behavior!).

I think you have twisted the movie to fit an agenda.. He was the good guy here adocating that people "have a life" that Pastor meant well but he was oblivious to his own family and it's problems so he held the whole town to ransom.. Morally anyway. Totally blind to his slutty daughter. And believe me pastor's daughters are usually very easy picking. Been around the block with one or two of them in my time too.

Footloose is one of those movies I can watch if I'm in the mood for it. Otherwise I would rather watch paint dry.

I'm confident Jpowell's review was meant as a joke.
