Has anyone read the book?

Has anybody read the book that the movie was made after? They changed the title and some of the parts. The book is called 24 hours and it is by Greg Ilse. It's acutally a pretty good book and the movie wasn't that well done. It makes more sense when you read the book. A lot of stuff was changed. Has anyone read the book and knows what i'm talking about?

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.

I read the book after enjoying all but the last fifteen minutes or so of the film. The book I read was published with the title "Trapped" and used cover art from the film.
I found the book added little to the film and to a certain extent I found Greg Ilse' writing style annoying, often drifting into irrelevant and unecessary little details that disrupted the flow.
Of the two I much prefer the film, largely because of some very good performances and moments of great tension. These are the reasons a can watch it time and again.

However, the film could have been so much better had there been greater attention to detail and continuity, fewer technical errors and less sheer stupidity. For example, cutting an aircraft's engine out of necessity, then diving as steeply as possible at the ground, when the need is to stay in the air for as long as possible! Didn't the qualified pilot for the filmed sequences point out to the director that a gentle gliding decent would be sufficient to keep the plane from stalling? It was so unnecessary, and in an instant the tension generated before that moment was lost to laughter.

I loved the book. It's got to be one of the best ones I've come across in recent years.

Of course, in the book one of the characters isn't named Marvin, but Huey. Huey's a much better name, if you ask me.

I got my parents into Greg Iles after I read this book and gave it to them. The book had differences like; Everyone but Abby was older, Abby had juvinnile diabeties not atsma, husband(already forgot names) had health problems and wasn't supposed to pilot planes but filed out his health clearence himself... dunno, i'm forgetful

Yeah, the father was a lot older, fairly ill-health and there was some marriage tension - it wasn't quite as perfect as in the film. Also the revenge was because of Joe's mother, not his daughter. I still enjoyed the book a lot though, possible more than the film but maybe not. Both are very clever.

Just a minor nit: the movie is BASED on the book. Iles wrote the screenplay several years back, but later turned IT into a screenplay. It's in the extras of the DVD.

Yes-Then I saw the add for trapped and jnew it was the same thing- Courteny Love as Cheryl though? BLECH! Cheryl was supposed to be beautiful. And they changed a lot- Abby as an asmatic instead of diabetic, Katie- instead of Joey's mother? Book was soooo much better- get it on tape, the guy reading it does a good Cheryl voice.

I've read every Greg Iles book except for this one. I need to go out and get it. I have LOVED every book he has written with the exception of his first one (Spandeau Phoenix). His writing is amazing.

reply

Yeah. You are right, for a thriller author he can get a little too caught up in details, but altogether great reads!
