I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but during the episodes when Goku was training with Popo and Kami, I spent the whole half an hour staring in wonder at the TV. After watching DBZ, and watching these few episodes for the first time, you really see where Dragonball evolved.
shareI wouldn't say it was jaw-droppingly amazing, but I felt like those training episodes were handled poorly. They never finished the plot when he goes back to meet young roshi, and they just cut off the training and the next episode without much warning...they should have at least had the first episode where you see adult goku start off with narration saying something like "three years after goku defeated king piccolo, he finished his training with popo and is ready for the tournament" or something like that
