Goku's Age In Dragonball.

I always thought Goku was like 8 or 9 when the first episodes of Dragonball take place but come to realize he is 14 was kind of shocking as he was always referred to as kid Goku. That makes Gohan younger then him when he defeated Cell.

Goku is 12. Funimation screwed up his age in the dub of the show. Also fun to note, in DBZ during the "Trunks Saga" his age when Bulma met him supposedly was five. But no, Goku is 12 during the first Budokai, three years later he returned to fight Tienshinhan at 15, and finally fought Piccolo Jr. at the age of 18.

This same issue affect Gohan in the Funimation DBZ dub, wherein in the dub he's actually a year older then in the original version. This is where we get odd names like "Teen Gohan" when in fact he's only ten-years old.

Goku didn't know what he was during DB. He always thought he was human...but he wasn't sure, because he had a tail.

And he's 11 during the Pilaf saga (which is one year before the first tournament, obviously lol)

I never understood that... Goku was probably the shortest and most underdeveloped 14-year old boy I've ever seen.

The weird part is that Bulma was surprisingly well-endowned for a 16-year old.

But then again, that's just anime rules... Look at Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple... Most of the main characters are in High School, but the girls look like fully (over)developed adults.

"Gohan was infact 9 years old when he defeated Cell. He was 4 when Raditz arrived and 5 when Vegeta and Nappa arrived and the events on Namek. He was 16 during the Boo saga."

Well, you have to add that he aged a year in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

To be fair shed not well endowed for a 16 year old

Goku only thought he was 14 because he didn't know how to count properly until he trained with Master Roshi. I haven't seen it in a while, but it gets explained in one of the episodes during the Tenkaichi Budokai. I think at the beginning of the series he's 11. He tells Bulma the wrong age because he thought 14 comes directly after 10.

Yes I remember at the first martial arts tournament it is revealed that Goku is 12 and Krillin is 13. I was surprised because I though they were more like 8 and 9.

Goku clarifies that he was 12 in 21st Tournament and he spent a year training and at most 6 months on the search for the dragon balls so I think he was 10 years old.

Yeah, it's said flat out that at 12, he's the youngest competitor ever in the World Martial Arts Tournament.

But he still seemed like a very immature 12. Part of that can be accounted for by the fact that he had no real idea of how long it had been since Grandpa Gohan had been stomped into the dirt by the Moonlight Monster.

Gohan seemed to have taught him many important things, but not many basic things. Like what underwear is.

I would still swear that Goku was really only about 8 years old when Bulma found him, however. It did seem to take him a long time to have his teeny-bopper growth spurt.
