Did you guys think that the first two sagas / 28 episodes were the best?

..... Like by far, blew out of the water better than the rest of Dragon Ball.

Okay, I'm now overjoyed and extremely proud to say I have seen all of Dragon Ball after having seen Dragon Ball Z beginning to end countless and I mean countless times over the years, I own all of DBZ on VHS.

Anyways, it was definitely worth my time and more or less what I expected, toned down the fighting, action, and seriousness while ramping up the comedy and explorative characteristics all while keeping a strong hold on the magical lighthearted nature of the show.

Now after I saw episode 153, I conversed with myself for a good ten minutes on the details going over the entire series, how I thought about all sagas and parts and why. Frankly those details and explanations would be tens of pages to explain. So cutting out all of the reasons I believe the following I'll zoom right in to the general question:

Did you guys think the first two sagas, aka 28 episodes absolutely blew the other sagas and episodes of Dragon Ball completely out of the water overall. I liked them alot and they were great, and possibly better in some ways (but probably not) then the first 28 / two sagas. I mean they were different so it's not always fair to compare, I'm rambling...
My point is when I saw the final episode and sat back and just was in amazement that I had such a significant show to me at least now with me in my pocket and mind to carry with me through my life.... rambling yet again.....

My question, my point, whatever, I just felt that the first 28 were truly spectacular and utterly wonderful. The premise, the characters perfect individually and perfect for another, the scenery, the stories, the spirit of the show, the tone, the innocence and magic involved while the sense of adventure and learning along the way. Nothing ever seemed slow or to drag, always exciting and interesting, unique and original. I just felt like those were the ones to really cherish, they really had the best of the show at all parts. Having the ever naive and unspoiled Goku with nothing but innocence and curiosity in his travels into a magical uncharted world. Bulma by his side a perfect foil, a partner of compliment, teaching him about the world first hand in her own slap first explain later style. The bonus comedic relief of Oolong, the rascal wily rogue / goofball of yamchae and his companion Puar. Finally the coup de grace being Master Roshi a perfect character to interact with all others, each having a different affect from the Martial Arts Turtle pervert Hermit. (Lets not forget Krillin.) All that added with the beautiful settings one only visits in their dreams. How could you not wish to be part of such a world, though in a sense we are and it is because of what is truly held by the show...

At the very heart, which no amount of words in any poetic form can embody or emulate is just that: the heart. Only those who have seen the show could possibly understand what I'm talking about, the very nature. What makes Dragon Ball unlike any other. It is the spirit of the show, the morals and specialities it holds. What can not be defined and choregraphed by words alone. It is an innate quality within the fantastical world itself. The innocence and tenderness, that is so fragile and magical that only a wish from such a place could make it a reality. A tad corny I know it sounds, but I know that if you know in the slightest what I blab about then you know where it comes from. It has that star that brings a soft smile to your face every time you see the gang in any form in the world of Dragon Ball. Whether on an adventure solving different problems, learning new things, dodging danger, helping where they can and where they can't. Or if it's the ring seeing what next big bully life is thrown at them each time you can't help but laugh and smile all the way while keeping your ears and eyes at the ready to see what happens next. It's the little things, that flow right passed you all wrapped in to one that makes it something unforgettable, something like nothing else.
..... It's simply the feeling that comes out when you tag along for another day.

I had more I'm sure, but the truth is its 4:45 in the morning and my brain is caving in from me ignoring to write recently since I've been in a stuck space with my life and my writing. So not only can I continue but I will leave some spots that seem rather unfinished and making little to no sense.

Anyways so I rambled and go caught off in what the show meant to me at least in some form, and you may find it corny or immature. Perhaps even misguided or overlooking and that's fine, because to each his own. Still though whether you read any of this or not what I would like to know from you, is what you thought of the first 2 sagas or 28 episodes compared to the rest of the series. Were they the best, the same, the worst. As stated before I felt that the first 28 truly embodied what the show was all about. The spirit of the show was truly encapsulated at no better space than in those first wonderful 28. They were truly where the magic of Dragon Ball resides, to me at least. So I wanna hear what you guys thought about the aforementioned in this paragraph.

Did you guys think the first two sagas / 28 episodes were the best, better, worst, or the same as the rest of Dragon Ball.

so yeah, opinions...

Thank You~

Normality is incredibly weird.

Never really thought of the tournament saga, but Emperor Pilaf is definetly the best saga of the original series. After that, maybe the tournament or Piccolo.

(spoilers ahead. I feel like anybody reading this will have already seen the series, but there are still people who haven't and if you're anything like me, you want to read about it sometimes when you're not watching it, and occasionally find spoilers)

I have only seen the first 100ish episodes, basically up until the end of the second tournament. The first few episodes and the 5 or so before the second episode are my favorite. They have a nice adventurous style to them, with each plotline being mostly contained to its own episode. Even though I like the large story arcs, I really like the episodic nature of those episodes...it has more of a fun, adventurous, whimsical nature. While it had its moments, overall I did not enjoy the Red Ribbon Army saga. I felt like it was badly paced and just a chore to get through, plus it was incredibly un-satisfying. First of all, after Blue gives Goku so much trouble, Goku never actually defeats him. Secondly, it took way too long for that section with him to end. When mercenary tao came along and beat Blue, the series became much more enjoyable to me. I did really enjoy both tournaments and the fortune teller baba sagas as well, but the emperor pilaf saga and the training for the second tournament was my favorite part so far.

I have to ask: Dragon Ball GT, while I heard it isn't as good as the original 2 dragon ball shows, it returns Goku to a child...does that mean it also returns to the more adventurous nature of Dragon Ball, or is it just nonstop fighting like Dragon Ball Z?

Just finished Frieza. The pacing was acceptable until Frieza hit his final form, then it started to drag really badly.

I didn't like the Red Ribbon Army from the beginning though, but I thought the Namek saga was awesome and Frieza was a cool villain (despite hating his voice in first form)

I actually like the red ribbon saga(Starting with Muscle Tower, especially the Murasaki stuff) & then the Tien tournament, i LOVED the 1st fight between Goku & Tien.

well, let me rephrase that. I liked the muscle tower and murasaki stuff, but after that I just wanted the RR stuff to end, but it dragged on so long, especially general blue...then you don't even get the satisfaction of having goku defeat blue. Of course, at that point, I was used to the episode-by-episode syle of the earlier episodes, where the RRA stuff started to be more about the overreaching storyline than individual episodes.

If I re-watch it, I'd probably enjoy it a lot more

That wasn't even Frieza's final form!

I agree about the Red Ribbon saga. After Muscle Tower, it drags on and on and on.
