Is the Griffon based on any existing automobile at all?

It's a Sedan of sme sort, as mentioned in the series. I think it's meant to be similar to The Black beuty in Green Hornet, which was a Cjrysler Imperial Crown.
You can see a 1958 model that looks very close to what's in the Big O belw.
