Live action Big O?

I hear that the Sci-Fi channel is going to turn Which Hunter Robin into a live action show/movie/series something. That is only mildly interesting to me because WHR is a decent show, but not like The Big O. It does beg the question though, why not a Big O live action something from Sci-Fi? Maybe we should start bugging them about doing something if adult swim is going to do nothing. I think too that people should watch the Which Hunter Robin series on Sci-Fi, simply to show that converting a show like that is a good idea. Then we might be able to get The Big O later. What do we think?

I found WHR to be boring, slow and predictable. If sci-fi can improve upon it, I'll give it another try. WHR seemed to playout every overplayed "team" stereotype. On the plus side, some of the adversaries were cool.

A live action Big O doesn't really excite me. Big O the cartoon was fantastic though. I still want a season 3 or a movie.

reply

Agreed. I think that season 3 would be best. I think that an animated movie would be next best. However if niether one of these is possible, I'll take a live action Big O. Since the cartoon seems to be in limbo, I'd like to see some live action. In all likelyhood, we will probably see season 3 or nothing though.

Isnt it perfect the way it is? I just couldnt see a live-action version

There are things known, and things unknown. Inbetween are the doors of perception

reply

Yes, I agree that it is perfect the way that it is. But adding something new would just be bonus! If is was stupid, we could ignore it and watch the originals and tell everyone how lame the new stuff is compared to the original. But if it was cool, then we would have some new stuff to discuss. Plus, who cares if it fails? At least we would watch it right? I'm sure none of it will even happen anyway. Except maybe a season 3, I'm going to do what I can for that.

A Live Action show would bring in new fans and probabaly kick start season 3 if AS continues to neglect it, but at the same time I can't see Sci-fi doing it and it not being anything less than underwhelming. Have the you seen the crap movies they've been putting out? Most of them revolve around natural disasters that can never happen or taking an animal and increasing it's size by 10 times and letting it loose on people. We can all look forward to Attack of the Giant Opposum before the end of the year, and possibly Return of the Giant Opposum sometime in 2006.

I don't have much faith in the WHR they're going to put out. Of course, my mother insist that they should do a big-screen Big O movie, which COULD work if done absolutely right...

reply

The brilliance of the animation and design is what makes the show likeable. Live action can never match this...see the Tetsujin go28 live series or the live 8-Man movie for two great examples.

now that you mention it, I think I agree. If they do make a movie, it should be animated like the show. What a shame that no one important shares our opinion.

I am somewhat receptive to the idea of either a full-length animated film or a live-action _Big O_ film -- though there is a school of thought that the latter's thunder may have already been largely stolen by _A.I.: Artificial Intelligence_ and _Sky Captain and the world of Tomorrow_ (with its giant war robots, many with metallic tentacle-like arms, a technology often seen in _Big O_).

I must say that I tuned in late to _A.I.: Artifical Intelligence_ the first time I saw it, just before the point where the hero goes under the sea. And I must say that the partially-submerged NYC and the underwater Coney Island part made me think immediately of some scenes in some eps of _Big O_. (Now that I think back on it, a fair amount of time was spent in and under the water in that show.)

A live action Big-O would be cool, but nothing beats the original anime. However, I REALLY hope Sci-Fi doesn't do it. They have a tendency to really screw up shows.
