You may be right about that..but they had alot of very famous voices in it:such as Lucy Lui

So the movie may have went straight to dvd,but there were many famous voices in it,so Eddie may have refused for another reason.

i think the guy who did do his voice did a decent job w/ it. when i first saw Mulan 2, i didn't even realize at first that someone else was doing the voice. oh, and was it him, or was it really Ming-Na who did the Mulan voice in the scene where "Mulan" is "gossiping" to the "princesses" about Shang outside his tent? you know teh one i'm talking about.

reply

come on, Eddy Murphy did the voice for Mushu before he did Donkey in Shrek. For Shrek 2, they paid him like $5 millions. Disney wouldn't spend that much for a straight to DVD movie!

The reason he didn't do this is because he was offered $10 million for Shrek, while this movie only offered something like a quarter million. Not to mention Shrek was a big box-office release while this was straight-to-DVD. Which would you choose?

reply

Thats what i was like. But he could've been filming another movie. And he couldn't do Mulan II.

reply

It feels like to me it wasn't fair that Eddie Murphy could voice Donkey in all three Shrek movies, but not in the sequel for Mulan. That's sorta cheesy if you ask me. If I provided a voice for an animated character, I wouldn't care about being paid. If I love the role so much, I would return and it wouldn't matter to me from which company it came from whehter it was in theaters or straight to DVD.

Actually, if you read the trivia section on Imdb.com under this movie, it says that due to a clause in Eddie Murphy's contract for Shrek 2, he could not do the sequel. He wanted to, but his hands were tied.

reply

So in other words, he was busy then. I could have understand that then. They did do a good job replacing him with someone who sounded just like him, it's hard to tell the difference unless you look at the cast list.

I can tell the difference easily--Mushu's voice is a tad bit deeper in the second one than in the first, although they are really similar. It bugs me though cause I don't like the deeper voice for Mushu. I really wish it were Eddie Murphy, but what is is.

It is quite odd, since Disney and DreamWorks are rival studios, and it is unfortunate when contractual obligations to another studio hamper the availability of an actor/actress from reprising a role.

As for Chris Sanders not appearing, he was most likely doing filming for Lilo & Stitch and possibly one of the sequels, if not doing episodes of L&S: The Series as well.

Does anyone know who provided the voices for Qi Gong's Lord Chin and Prince Jeeki (Chin's son)?

reply

Contractual restrictions with DreamWorks wouldn't allow him to work on this film along with Shrek 2, so he couldn't do it.

I think "Captain Planet" is something that should be mandatory to watch nowadays.

It really sucks that he was not allowed to return.

For me Eddie Murphy will always be the voice of Mushu.

reply

Wow I honestly didn't notice, whoever voice acts Mushu in the sequel sounds just like Eddie Murphy!

reply

I think he was busy with Shrek 2 at the time.
