WHEN was this film made????

I am seriously confused about when this film was made.

I see here that it was released in 1976, but the film stock and vehicles shown in the film are considerably older, suggesting an older film. Also, at one point they clearly point out a calendar bearing the date of November, 1957.

The film certainly does seem to belong to the sort of natural history genre pictures that Disney and others put out in the 50's. The 16mm film stock and the quality of the faded color footage is similar to that weird pinkish/yellow-tinged Kodachrome one associates with 50's-era color photography.

Was this a 1976 re-issue of a 1950's film, done to cash in on the 70's Bigfoot craze? I can't believe that they waited 30 years to give it its initial release.

Can anyone shed some light on this mystery?
