Biggest Anticlimax ever

This movie isnt all that bad... its cliched and generally not original at all but makes for some good light watching.
However, the ending is possibly the most unimaginative i have ever witnessed. I know this isnt supposed to be magnolia or the shawshank redemption but you cannot justify "that" as an ending.
Give your gracious speech AFTER you beat the guy up. Tim Allen's character is supposed to be like a Phoenix rising from the ashes... seeking revenge.
Like "the bride" in Kill Bill... He should beat the crap outta the guy then do his G-rated "fighting is the not the answer bit".

But, before the ending... i was surprised, its actually an ok light family flick.

Yah, I liked it too. I thought that the ending was pretty good, he worked out learning how to fight, but then resisted the temptation to actually do it. Which is something that everyone should do, and Patrick Warburton's character respected him too. Which is another good thing. And he actually got to use some of his "skills" on Jeremy, that one guy who wanted to see a fight. Lol, I loved this movie, I saw nothing wrong with it.

The ending was just to pc.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! I got so pissed off at the end, cos the whole movie was about building up to the fight. And then he didn't fight... As soon as that happened I turned off the TV straight away...

Yeah it sucked but I wasn't expecting him to actually fight. It seemed like they put him chopping Greg Germann in just so the endin wasn't completely silly.

owever it was a good enough film. Good enough at least for me to sit through it all. And Julie Bowen is unbelivably attractive.

"Fu*k! Why can't I ever say what I really mean?"

Beating the guy up would have defeated the whole purpose of the movie.

He has his self-respect. He knows he can defend himself. There's no need to fight the guy. He doesn't need anyone else's respect.

You're complaining about it being cliched and in the other thread folks are complaining about it being unusual.

If he would have fought, it would defeat the entire purpose of everything this movie was about. It was a very bold move to end this movie like this and I applaude. At the same time it saddens me that so many people "don't get it" and STILL long for the clicheed final battle even though this was a comedy. Are so many people so hardwired to the same old structures?

I think this was the greatest part of the movie, and filmed/acted quite well. When you see him looking at the guy who's hands are full on shaking because he's afraid he's going to be pummelled. Just the realization in that moment that he wasn't afraid of him anymore - he actually pitied him in that moment and decided to spare the man the embarrassment that was inflicted on him.

It's great because it shows a great deal humility and maturity that most adults are supposed to have. Just because you can beat someone up doesn't mean you should. If you are sure of yourself you don't need anyone else's approval to do anything. Joe finished his character arc nicely.

I was happy because I was expecting the fight (which could have been cool to watch too I suppose) but saw some actual character development instead. Also it didn't come out all self righteous, it was what it was.
