did anybody else think this movie sucked?

I usually like Tim allen movies but this is one of his worst ever. this is second worse to the santa clause 2. I think tim allen portrays an attention seeking dork who wants to get into a fight for a reason as stupid as a parking spot. and his daughter did a pretty bad job in this too.

does any one else dislike this film?

Yeap, just finished watching this movie a few mins ago. It did suck.
I thought it started off well. He was going to fight the bully after getting face slapped; the premise of a funny movie was set. How is he going to prepare? What can be done to turn this office dork's life around? Is he gonna kick ass? Oh the anticipation. But as we move along, his relationships with everyone surrounding him change for the better, and this do what's moral yabayaba goes on and by then it becomes predictable that there isn't going to be any fight. So I did hope for a fight at the end, or at least something funny. I got neither. The movie ends, and I wonder, what was the point?

reply

...the point was, he realized he didn't HAVE to fight to have dignity.
This movie was actually very much in keeping with the true martial arts philosophy. At this point in his training, Joe knew he had a pretty good chance of defeating Mark (Patrick Warburton's character). Knowing that, there was no need to actually do so.

Joe also found out that all those cheering him on were not his friends, just hangers-on.
Jim Belushi's character pointed this out to him when he recounted his days as a movie star. People were lined up to kiss his ass, but when they tired of him, they formed a new line behind someone else (no pun intended).
I think this fact dawned on Joe when he saw people in the crowd placing bets.
True friends would be concerned for his well-being, not trying to make a few bucks off him, or attempting to satisfy some base blood-lust.

Make sense now?

He didn't get into the fight over the parking space ... It was because his last shred of self-respect was taken from him when he got humiliated in front of his daughter.

In a subsequent scene, he says "he took something from me" ... they leave this up to the audience somewhat to figure out what "something" is, but he's probably not referring just to the parking space.

i originally watched this movie about 3 years ago and i sort of liked it. so a few hours ago, i caught it on FX and decided to watch it again - wow. i really like tim allen but damn this movie reeked. honestly, there was nothing funny and you kinda felt bad for the main character even when he decides to not fight and walks away. keep in mind, i didn't have any high expectations for this movie - i understand it's light, fluffy, family entertainment and suprisingly failed to uphold any of those descriptions. the only thing keeping me from turning off the TV completely was Julie Bowen.
