First of all, I don't understand this enthusiasm for Tim Burton to direct it (and the talent of Johnny Depp that inevitably follows in casting). After seeing what they did with Sweeney Todd, I don't want them to touch any more stage-to-screen transfers. Once is quite enough. Don't let the door hit ya where the sun don't shine, boys.

I'm afraid I'm not sure exactly who I would want to direct, though; not Rob Marshall, who has turned musicals into "movies where the lead characters dream songs, because it can't be an actual musical, oh heavens no, people won't accept actual musicals on a cinema screen." Maybe Bill Condon, who managed to make Dreamgirls work pretty nicely, but it did help that a lot of the songs weren't tied so much to the story (and the songs that were got either eliminated or minimized without hurting the story so much).

I'd give it to Tom Hooper, but after his experience working on Les Miserables, he'll be swamped with offers to create a musical that works, and I don't think he'll be so quick to take another project of the same stripe. So... I'll hold off on a director for now.

Casting-wise, though...

Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde...............HUGH JACKMAN
Lucy Harris.......................ANNE HATHAWAY
Emma Carew........................LACEY CHABERT
Utterson..........................ROBERT DOWNEY, JR.
Sir Danvers Carew.................CHRISTOPHER LEE

Hey, shut up. the movie of Sweeney Todd with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp was wonderfully done! Johnny Depp's best work was Sweeney Todd, it showed he could sing! Shut up unless you know what you're talking about!

I am a producer of world class media (stage, film, TV, audio recording), and in addition I develop and produce original, indigenous talent in all areas of media production, in concert with production possibilities in major U.S. cities and metropolitan centers throughout the world. I've served as a grand rights negotiator on a Broadway-bound musical project; arranged the writing team for a solicited English bid on a popular German-language rock musical; helped to construct a film series idea for Daniel Radcliffe; associate produced a workshop of a new play which led to a signed deal for a Broadway company; and was co-chief image rights negotiator for an international concern. I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about, a hell of a lot more than an anonymous Internet poster.

The movie of Sweeney Todd was a damn travesty and a waste of good source material. Tim Burton completely missed that the stage musical was a dark comedy, and just made it unremittingly dark. As for Johnny Depp, if we're going to consider him a singer based on this film, then we also have to consider dog crap aesthetically pleasing in a natural sort of way.

Furthermore, that's completely off the topic, which is who we'd cast for a film of Jekyll & Hyde. You laid out your cast, I laid out mine. Let's have no more of this.

You're Just saying all that to get your way. You're a liar. You're none of that stuff. If you are, you'll have proof. No, the movie was not a travesty. It was brilliantly done and Johnny Depp is best Todd ever. Final.

Shut up unless you DO know what you're talking about. Which you don't. Because for your information, and this is something I do have proof of, I am an actor from Broadway.

Really? Just like you have proof you appeared in a Steven Spielberg Peter Pan movie? ;) I have proof and more of everything I say. You are, have been, and remain a young man with a very active fantasy life, Mr. Velazquez. I'm sorry your real life isn't quite so interesting, but to air open falsities on the Internet does nothing to improve it, and will come back to haunt you.
