Not quite like the book....

Ok, so I know screenplays based on books often change things around to make a better story for a movie, but I saw this movie after reading the book and was disappointed.
I didn't like how the Ya-Ya's kidnapped Sidda and made her stay with them and learn about the "divine secrets". In the book Sidda went out to a cabin out in the middle of nowhere to figure out her life/weather or not she should marry Conner and then Necie, Caro, and Teensy show up as support and to answer questions. In the book, Sidda was grateful and eager to hear these stories, yet in the movie, Sandra Bullock is an immature cranky ass.

Kinda annoying since I just finished the book yesterday and then randomly caught the movie at like 11pm that night on TBS.

Only thing I had an issue was with was how did the YaYas get the Divine Secrets? I mean the thing is stored in the top of Vivi's closet like where her hats and things are (yes i read the book too) And yes she trusts them beyond all others including her hubby but still. How did they get it?

Agreed. The YaYa books are my all time favorite books. I must have read them all 15 times. I agree that the Sidda character in the book and the Sidda character in the film are way different. There are so many things I could nitpick about that I don't dare start talking about how this adaptation suffers in translation.

Well, you have to remember that not everything that is in a book will work in a film. Sometimes you have to change something to make it more interesting or dramatic. Did the book mention what happened to Sidda's siblings?
