Mock me...this is a great f@#$ing movie!

Laugh at me all you want. I am simply stunned. Being from Lionsgate, I had very low expectations. I actually snatched this film from my friend's DVD collection because I am a Lovecraft junkie. I was simply amazed at what everyone involved with the production were able to accomplish on a shoestring! This film is mesmerizing, grotesque in the best sense and balls-out daring. Everyone has already mentioned the nerve-inducing editing style (and the filmmakers explained in their own thread the damage to the film in transport that brought about the need for it) but I think that it works wonders for the atmosphere of madness in the film. And, yes, most of the actors were either wooden or way, way over the top in their inflections and dialogue readings...BUT, considering that this film takes place at the turn of the last century, I think that the acting styles work very well in invoking the time and place. It reminded me of stage actors from the early 20th century. The gore effects were fantastic, and added a great deal to the film without being overused (although, if they had taken the time and money to hire Savini for makeup special effects and showed each and every head torn off in the final sequence, it would have been gorehound orgasmic paradise!) Now, I know that this film was not intended to be the Citizen Kane of horror films by any means, but I think that all involved with the project completely and totally fulfilled what they set out to do and then some. I am not an easy person to please when it comes to horror, but Beyond the Wall Of Sleep left me with a very satisfied feeling. Bravo! Now, let the trolls begin their attacks.

I've got a hundred dollars...let's fall in love.
