I lked this mvie and didnt think ti was racist at all BUT

BUT how much u wanna bet that if a white version was made(white good guys, black bad guys) then it would be considered EXTREMELY racist and everyone in it would be hated? Now remember that I did NOT think this movie was racist and I DID like it.

Go back and watch Birth of a Nation.

ooooo he told you

reply

yeah, well, that could be said about any movie where race is dealt with.

imagine a white Boyz in the hood... lawl.

or a black American History X. Rowful.

reply

I couldn't stand watching it all. It literally sucks.

reply

As opposing to it sucking figuratively?

reply

Please define, "literally sucks". Literally sucks is something that a swimming pool pump does. Literally sucks is something monica lewisky did to Pres. Clinton. I'm not seeing how this movie "literally" sucked.

reply

Wow. A guy was asking a serious question and you all say things like "Go back and watch Birth of a Nation" and make out as if he is a racist and that 'whites' are hypocritical because they USED to make racist films. No this film is not racist and a 'white version' of this shouldn't be considered racist either. White people created the slave trade? All ethnic groups had slaves at one point and African Kings sold people into slavery at the same time as the white slavers. Also, there was many white slaves, Arabic slaves etc. Slavery shouldn't be thought of as a crime against one ethnic group but a crime against HUMANITY!

You all seem intolerant to me and I absolutely loathe intolerance of all kinds.

If only people cared about the likes of Martin Luther King jr. and cared about what he was saying.

"I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers."

"...and blacks were just bad guy savages with spears".

In defence of the old (and rather BAD) Tarzan films, African Tribesmen were often friends of Tarzan and thus good guys.

Still, it is a form of racism. This does not justify anti-whte racism though.

I suppose back in the day persons of color thought whites were being racist everytime a cowboy movie came on depicting the white man as the hero and the Native Americans as the villian.

Same principle if you ask me.

reply

THIS IS A RACIST MOVIE. Thats all there is to it.

reply

No, this is a saterical film. On what grounds is this a racist portrayal, and of whom? I ask this because their is multi ethnic satire at work here. Black and white folks alike came out looking equally silly in this film. So call it racist if you wish but be prepared to back up your claims with fact.

"No thanks Turkish...I'm sweet enough."

reply

It's offensive to all, which makes it funny and not racist.

reply

"THATS RIGHT, THATS RIGHT!, Awww that aint right"

though the humor isn't all that sharp or clever for the most part. Excepting dave chappelle, he's the best part of this flick and everything he's ever been involved with (including 200 Cigarettes, although that isn't saying much, now is it?)

Edit: ...and Screwed (yuck), Con Ait (double Bruck-yuck), and Robin Hood Men in Tights (super duper I-hate-Cary-Elwes yuck)

reply

Well, I guess you could be right. But the movie pokes fun at stereotypes of both races to me.White people loving mayo not being able to dance and loving micheal bolton? Black people loving fried chicken never being on time and craving white women. It was a very broad satire but i don't think you should take in do seriously.

reply

Hell, the fact that Neil Patrick Harris saves the rest of the supporting cast has to say something about its equal bashing.

And, yeah, Harris didn't come out till years after the movie, but now the knowledge that he's gay brings the character's heroics into another light altogether as well.

reply

If this movie is racist towards black people, then Austin Powers is racist towards english people.

reply

I don't think this is a racist movie but, I do agree with the original poster. If they made black people the bad and white the good, this would be bashed and called "racist".

reply

The movie is a decent if not great, updated theme ala Blazing Saddles; another film that picked at both sides of the race card. It was funny but of course that's subjective anyway.

And whites have made racist- laced films for the last 70 years whether it was the times or on purpose...go look at some of those old Shirley Temple movies and the stupid-acting, tap dancing blacks scratching their heads, those damn Tarzan movies where the great white man rules over the dark jungle in his loincloth with his gay monkey and blacks were just bad guy savages with spears, The Lone Ranger always sending his Indian comrade Tonto to town for intelligence on a lead only to get beat up and nearly strung up by the white townfolks in nearly every film, also movies back in the day where Asians were either cooks or laundry workers, the list goes on and on...

And people get sensitive about a slight movie like this...

reply

i agree with frostorm to the utmost.
i mean, the lone ranger had a companion but was still the lone ranger? the "indian" tonto was not even seen as worthy of being acknowledged as a partner of subordinate in the name, he just wasnt included. straight up.
and undercover brother is a classic, it takes the piss out of EVERYONE, so its all love.

Damn it, Damn it, Damn it

Why is it, no one can make a "toungue-in-cheek" attempt to poke fun at Racial differences, or more accurately in this case, make a film that is an enjoyable, light-hearted homage to "Blaxploitation" films, without some dimwitted caucasian starting off his retort with something along the lines of "If a WHITE guy, made a film making fun of BLACK people than.....(fill in the blank)"

Would that really make you feel better? I mean how well thought out is that idea?

Are you writing a script for a film where the entire plot revolves around white people taking comedic jabs at black people? (which by the way - DOES NOT describe the plot - in reverse - of Undercover Brother. It just seems to be the limit of imagination that guys of this ilk can achieve)

And i guess - more importantly - If you were to make such a movie, film it, and play it at local theaters, would you then stand out in front of the theater like a carnival barker, and be like "HAHA! lets see how YOU BLACK FOLKS LIKE IT! not very funny now is it?! i sure dished out some well-deserved come-uppance here didn't i?!"

BTW, if a movie was made specifically by white people only, specifically to poke fun at black people - it wouldn't be funny. And thats coming from a white guy. In fact, that whole white people belittling black people has been done before - its called basically the entire history of the United States up until late into the 20th century.

reply

this is f'n bullcrap! when people talk about racism everybody think racism from White to Black and not the other way around! it's unbelievable... and that pisses me off because black people are equaly or even more racist than white people! a guy says "black" or defend a point of view of the white people and it considered an racist... when a black guy make fun or offends the white race no one can say anything and call HIM a racist!
one thing... i think this film IS racist, because as a WHITE PERSON i feel offended and this film distorts our way of being... like all white people are nerds, that we are into stupid things and stupid!
so i agree with THE1WISHMASTER1 and say that if this movie was the way around, it would be considered a extremely racist movie and probably even banned!
and don't come with excuses of "go see the other movie u did"... it's always the same thing! deal with it! As white people, black people ARE racist!
