Why do people overlook Russell's great perfomance in this movie

This has to be his most underrated role ever.

RIP MICHAEL JACKSON 1958-2009

agreed, and maybe his best role ever

Agreed, this was Russell's strongest performance the only problem was the film is basically pretty average outside of him.

It's amazing that Kurt Russell has never ever even been nominated for an Academy Award. Without a doubt one of the most under rated, under appreciated actors in Hollywood. For some other great performances by Kurt check out: Miracle, Breakdown, Unlawful Entry, Used Cars, and Backdraft (one of his best), and many more. But those are my favorites.

No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn ..... JM

The movie he really should've been nominated for was Silkwood. He did get a golden globe nomination, but was snubbed by the oscars.

The better question would be "why do people overlook his great performances in just about everything?" I don't think he's ever given a bad performance. If you listen to the directors who've worked with him, they all talk like he is pretty much a director's dream. Maybe that's the problem. I feel like I say this a lot throughout imdb but Kurt shows up, knows his lines, does his job, does his job well, and goes home. Not looking to take over the director's chair. Was never looking to become Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt. Never really making any issues for anyone. Just kind of under the radar. One director said he's Hollywood's best kept secret except he's not really a secret (Cameron Crowe maybe?) Maybe it's the roles he chooses. Maybe it's the idiots in Hollywood. All I know is he's always amazing and he's always underrated.

Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

i agree. he is great in this and of the most underappreciated actors in Hollywood.

This is Kurt's personal favorite role. He took this role very personally and put everything he had into it. His performance is intense, almost mesmerizing. I've seen this movie several times, and I can't point to a single, inauthenthic moment in any of Kurt's scenes.

Kurt's the real deal--a really decent and compassionate guy who is probably the most uncomplicated and least neurotic actor/person in all of Hollywood. I'm absolutely at a complete loss when trying to understood why he has never been nominated for an Academy Award.

Well said. I'm always amazed at how grounded he appears to be. Especially when compared to most of the people in the business.

Sad thing is, as great as he is, just not sure he'll ever get the recognition he deserves. It bothers me because I think he's is so much more than deserving. It doesn't seem to bother him so much or I'd be surprised if he brooded over it much.

One of the things I love about Kurt Russell is that he has at least one movie to fit almost every possible movie watching mood I can be in. Drama, serious action, fun action, slapstick comedy...he's always good. I love the Disney movies & the John Carpenter films, Overboard, Tango & Cash, this movie, you name it. Dramatically this is one of his best.

Definitely underrated character actor but he isn't bothered about awards

Definetely one of his best acting scenes of his career, along with Backdraft, The Thing, Silkwood & Elvis.

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit' me!" Hudson in Aliens.

reply

because hardly anyone saw the movie.

I said the same thing.I also thought he was really overlooked for his role as Herb Brooks in Miracle as well.He was also very good as Wyatt Earp in Tombstone also. How Val Kilmer didn't get an oscar or even a nomination for his role Doc Holiday, still puzzles me to this day.

He has played some fantastic characters, Snake Plissken, Jack Burton, RJ MacReady, to name a few.

Ahhh, Juicy Fruit

I think Kurt is an underrated actor with many great performances to his credit. I think his role in Dark Blue is one of his best.

reply

That's funny, I just popped in the forum to see if somebody has negative opinion about Kurt's acting, just to find that everybody is praising him. I thought that the character and acting was way over the top on many occasions in the movie. 5/10 stars.

Agree. Kurt Russell is a poor actor, aside from action/adventure roles.

This was a terrible movie, had the feel of a straight to DVD affair.
