am i the only one..

who thinks russell is underated.

reply

Make that two of us. Most underrated working actor today.

There's no way my dad was in on that cause he was *beep* dead!

reply

That makes that three of us, he is the daddy in everything he does (Cept maybe Posidien Adventure). Watched THE THING last week, cracking flick.

Help Wanted: Telepath - You know where

reply

Four.

Underrated, understated and undervalued. But that's almost a plus for Russell, 'cause he keeps sneaking up on people with great performances (none better than DEATH PROOF).

Only complaint: Let's get this great actor working more!

reply

make that 5, Kurt is 1 of the best under-rated actors ever. He was the best part of DEATH PROOF.

reply

Make that 6. Kurt Russell is a great actor.

reply

Make that 7. Kurt Russell is a legend.

reply

Make that 8. I loved him in Breakdown.

reply

I guess Im 9, I think hes kind of a Hollywood outcast due to his political beleifs and the fact that he speaks his mind and sometimes that means goin against the grain. Hes awesome though, he was great in this movie.

reply

I think he's too often upstaged by his own hair. That's all that keeps me from being 10. My goodness that man has had some unwise hair choices.

reply

I like and own pretty much all of his films and I can't think of a bad word to say about any of them, he is the man.

reply

10.
Political beliefs ?

reply

He is one of those actors who makes a film better by his presence. Remember how he blew away Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp via his Wyatt Earp?

reply

Oh yeah! 'Tombstone' was my reaquaintance with Russell's films in the '90s.
Frankly, KurtMan could beat Costner in any lead regardless of genre.

reply

11.
He is a Hollywood conservative who is most def not in the closet.

He'd likely get more top lead roles if most producers/directors weren't such great honking closet commies themselves.

BTW, his breakout performance in the (about) 1980-ish TV film 'Amber Waves' was amazing. Have been seeking a copy of this film for 25 years, but no luck.
He plays a spoiled rich model stranded in a small town. He takes a job working literally in the fields with a group of traveling combine harvesters and learns that modeling was never real work, among other things.
He chose the role deliberately to counter his Disney-boy image. Since the role calls for the character to be a prissy, prima donna type, it worked.
If you thought he was tough in DeathProof, just watch him turn a self-centered prick into an honest working husband in less than 1:40!

wow, good to see such a conformity here ;)

reply

Then I'll be 10. I really can't think of anyone who could do superbly roles as varied as Captain Ron, The Thing, Dark Blue, Elvis, Silkwood - come on - who has this range? And yet he's only won an oscar for Silkwood! Amazing.

Kurt Russell should be recognized as one of the true greats of movie acting - there's no one who is this versatile - no one. Try to imagine Sean Penn as Captain Ron or Johnny Depp in Dark Blue or Overboard - impossible!

reply

I also think he's a good actor with great range. Because of that I thought he should have had Tim Allen's part in Galaxy Quest. I could believe he had the part of a heroic space captain in the show, but Tim Allen?? He's one of the very few who can pull off the goofiness of Overboard or Capt. Ron or the intensity of Dark Blue or the Escape from... movies. And let's not forget The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes!!!

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

reply

Make that [insert number].
I haven't seen many of his films but ten minutes into Dark Blue, I thought "man, this guy can act". Shame he doesn't get many roles these days but I have seen that he's tipped to be in Tarantino's "Django Unchained". Will check out more of his films now.

reply

I'll be 14. Very underrated. Kurt Russell is an amazing actor. He's awesome

"Hello, Ben. Welcome back to the land of the living" - John Locke

reply

Make that 15. Although I may not agree with all his politics, he has the right to express them. Those beleifs should not keep him from getting roles. Besides he was kick ass in Escape From New York. That movie should have been a much bigger commercial hit. They should have made more of them. Snake Pliskin rocks.

make that 17, Kurt Russell is my favorite actor...and I have never seen him give a bad performance, no matter what the movie, genre, or time period...he always gives a hell of a performance!

reply

Ya' know, it's kind of boring when everyone agrees. I would try to criticize him for something (just for the sake of argument), but I got nothing.

reply

He's married to Goldie Hawn (do you think this even crosses his mind?)

And besides, he's A #1, the Duke (oh wait, that was the other guy in another movie).

But yeah he's pretty underrated. Every movie I've ever seen him in he has turned in a solid performance.

reply

Don't think he and Goldie are married...But count me for admiring Kurt and the great characters he's played. My favs- Tombstone, Dark Blue, Escape from NY and don't forget Used Cars (That's too *#cking High!)- Steve InSane Diegoland

reply

>russell is underated.

That's an understatement.

reply

Lost count here... but count me in!

Russell is brilliant in everything I've seen him in.

reply

That makes 19, he is great as stuntman mike.

reply

20.

He's one of the greatest actors of his time.

Very underrated.

Should I write meaningless bull$$hit here?

reply

21. He`s amazing!

reply

Where are we? 22? Count me in. In one interview, for Death Proof I think, he makes a point of stating that he isn't a member of the Academy even though Goldie is. I've wondered if that keeps him from being "recognized". I'm sure a membership has been offered to him - hell they offer it to many newbies. So, I imagine he turned it down. Probably doesn't sit well with many Hollywood types.

Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

reply

22 - always delivers.. hasn't had as many 'sympathetic' roles as Michael Douglas, and, I don't think, as many performances in the last 15 years.. I compare him with Douglas since I think they resemble each other physically, and in the kinds of roles they can play.. Russell hasn't contributed a dark clunker like Basic Instinct, from which Douglas had to redeem himself, in the eyes of his family and the non-porn-loving movie-going public..
- I think each guy could interchange some roles and maintain the right 'look' for the part.. example: Russell could do the Remington supporting role in Ghost and Darkness with Val Kilmer, and Douglas could handle the Snake Plissken stuff in the Escape from LA flicks..

- but I will take this opportunity to recommend that Russell fans revisit a very under-rated Sports/Comedy flick (satirical) he made with Robin Williams:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090713/
The Best of Times (1986) .... Reno Hightower

Russell and Williams play 2 men with similar marriage problems: their devotion to 'guy' stuff {i.e. Monday Night Football, car-parts, glory (real or imagined) achieved in the football arena} is driving their wives crazy! Watch for a hilarious scene where the girls invite their estranged spouses for dinner - on a Monday night!!! Will the guys enjoy a romantic meal with their eager wives, or will they succumb to the temptation to secretly watch Monday night ball on the portable TV? Russell is tremendous in this role: sympathetic, easy-going, lacking in ambition, yet tough and determined when he has to be. His tongue-lashing of his lazy team-mates in the big game, and his grim warning to Williams are classic: "I was going to throw you the ball, but I want to win this game.. if you drop this ball, your life is over."

- Enjoy..!

by the way: Kurt and Goldie have Muskoka cottage property about 50 miles north of me, here in Northern Ontario.. they are seen around town, as are many celebs.. reports about them are positive: friendly, down-to-earth..
