Many Ways in which Justine was an Evil Bitch

1. Cheats on her husband, instead of being standup/honest and simply leaving him.

2. Cheats on both her husband and lover with Bubba, just to protect herself.

3. Tries to poison (kill) her lover, simply because he's being needy.

4. Lies to her husband about being the father of the baby, saddling him with a life-long responsibility. (In some states, the "father" becomes legally responsible after a few years, even if not the biological father.)

5. Lies to her husband about who the lover was, causing a completely innocent person to get severely beaten. (Yeah, he watched her in the storeroom, so what? If you screw in a public place, there's a good chance you'll be seen, and you shouldn't whine about it.)

6. Considers leaving with her lover and his stolen money, not even leaving a note for her hubby.

7. Ultimately blows off her lover, without telling him or saying goodbye. Then, for absolutely no reason whatsoever, turns him into the cops. Causing him to kill himself in light of her enormous betrayal.

8. Denies even knowing the guy after he's found dead.

The Good Girl? More like the annoying, stupid Skank girl.

Right on!I couldn't agree more.In fact, the only two people i felt any sympathy for in the whole movie were justine's husband and the poor security guard who got beaten up.

reply

I really only fault her for numbers three and four, but those are bad enough.

How do you not fault her for cheating on her husband?

reply

Because I think monogamy is unnatural. I have had these arguments before, and I expect the next thing you'll say is that no one forced her to agree to be monogamous, and so it is dishonest to sneak around.

But I think people agree to it not because they really come to value it on their own, but because there is such a strong socialized, puritanical proscription against having multiple lovers. So we have this ridiculous, dishonest system where everyone gives lipservice to monogamy, but most people who get the opportunity to sleep around go for it if the person is attractive enough, and/or there is a low risk of getting caught. And then when people do get caught, we act all shocked and treat them as though they are morally equivalent to pedophiles or murderers.

I don't think anyone thinks they are the equivalent of pedophiles and murderers.

And I would agree with your statement. She did not have to get married. If you don't believe in monogamy that is fine, just don't get married. I also don't know if MOST people sleep around when they get the chance, although certainly some do.

What I'm saying is that there is some level of hotness combined with low risk of getting caught that will get almost everyone--but most people don't get those opportunities. IOW a supermodel and no risk of being found out, there are very few who don't go for it.

Yup, dead on Zando777. I was just about to write a similar list. A few other people have written similar things on this discussion board but they are mostly written in huge paragraphs which are too long; which puts me off reading them. Your post on the other hand is clear and concise.

The only thing I wanted by the end was for Justine to die. There is no justice in her living. She was miserable and instead of getting help, she just goes about hurting anyone that cared for her. The likely future would be more pain for people in her life when her actions begin to have negative implications; such as her husband or the actual fathers parents finding out the truth about the baby.

Although essentially she is indeed guilty of all of the above, this film was supposed to portray a woman who got "carried away". I mean if you think about it, she hated her life and whereby this is never an excuse to cheat, her no-good husband was a boor. She'd come home night after night to find him loafing out on the sofa with Bubba, stoned out of his face. He wasn't mentally stimulating enough either.

The reason for the title "The Good Girl" is because in spite of hating her dead end job, she had a conscience of sorts and turned Holden in because she felt guilty about the theft and her boss, Andy, told her she was "A good girl". But to be fair to you, she knew she had been rumbled via CCTV footage of her and Holden in the storeroom. She probably turned him in because it was an easy way out for her as well as the sense of obligation to her boss.

Things just kinda got out of control. She was attracted to Holden but quickly realised that essentially he was a child in a man's body and he was unhinged. She didn't want to hurt Phil, I believe that she just got in too deep and she did feel guilty, especially after Gwen's death. A series of events just spiralled out of control, unfortunately, but deep down she was probably riddled with guilt.

It seems like she did everything to protect herself. She was selfish and other people got hurt/died as a result.

Gotten carried away .. yes indeed but it wasn't guilt or her obligation toward her boss that urged her to turn Holden in .. it was that feeling that we all get after going through a series of too many wrongs that follow a mistake .. a temptation that should've stayed where it belonged .. in our fantacies. She was up to it .. she packed .. drove her car but felt like she has had enough of both .. consequences of her mistake and giving in for or putting up with everyone. She has had it and so figured out in that mere moment of deep self-searching that it was time to stop .. and put things back in perspective .. as possible .. back to the way things were before. She came out with a dream come true though out of a mistake that she preferred to leave it unfixed .. her pregnancy. It was a slack of real-life image. As for Holden, poor Holden .. he thought he fibally found something .. a life .. someone .. to share that life with .. by doing what felt crazy but good to him for he'd seen a great hope for both of them to be together and live THAT life they both wanted so much by stealing that big amount of money rather than ending up in an institution and live miserably ever after with no hopes or dreams. He's had something in there and wanted it so much only couldn't go on without her. She was a saver to him .. a resort .. as stealing money was .. a way out. Without her .. he'd drown. And as she took a long time .. knowing she wasn't coming .. he drowned alright.

He was more than simply needy. Are you being a smartass or are you a simpleton?

This was a small Texas town. The part of Texas it is in, would be important to us viewers. She was Mizz Hot-Ass in high school. Queen of the heap. The job she had was considered pretty good for the likes of her. She knows there are colleges, but has no idea how to get there, so she's a bit in the dark on self improvement.

She was attracted to Holden because he was a mystery. Good girls are attracted to mysteries. When she decided to have sex with him, she was curious. That curiosity got blown away as did she...a different guy pounding her like never before. (I loved seeing Aniston rode hard, the prissy little bitch.) Anyway. after several interludes of the same thing with Holden, she became bored again. Going to school would have allowed her to test other projects, and when bored find another one. She can't do that in that little town.

I see a divorce on the horizon.
