Part of a trilogy?

At the end of Gods and Generals or Gettysburg"not sure which" it reads that these two are part of a trilogy.
Where is the third movie? Cant find it.

Same thing,diffrent day.

Gods & Generals flopped commercially and critically. "The Last Full Measure" doesn't exist and I would say that the odds of it ever being green-lighted are between none and nothing.

Sadly, I have to agree. Although, the chances might go up if the upcoming Blu-ray releases of the Director's Cut of both "Gods and Generals" and "Gettysburg" are a success! If "The Last Full Measure" is ever going to be made, it's within the next four years of the Civil War 150th, or it will never happen.

God bless!

Wishful thinking on producer Ted Turner's part: I'm sure he bought the rights to the second Jeff Shaara novel, The Last Full Measure, but this film's failure at the box office assured it would never happen.

Doubtful Director Ronald Maxwell's career will survive, either, which is sad: his battle scenes are wonderful, never surpassed for the American Civil War era, not even in Edward Zwick's Glory.

Would love to see his version of Shaara's Mexican War novel, Gone For Soldiers -- but with a screenplay by someone else. He's not a very interesting screenplay writer.

PS: For clarification, Gettysburg is based on Michael Shaara's Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Killer Angels. Michael was Jeff's father, and a much better writer.

I saw this film yesterday afternoon and was completely underwhelmed, except for the battle sequences. It may be the longest-seeming movie ever ... and I love long movies!

If the third movie was ever planned to be like Gods and Generals...the movie Gods took mercy on the public by never letting it show its face.

After the flop of Gods and Generals at the box office, it was decided it would be just too costly to make the third film in the series. Many moviegoers felt the movie was too long, too preachy, less emotional than Gettysburg, and the changing of lead actors from Gettysburg to Gods and Generals. Jeff Daniel had lot less screen time in G&G than Gettysburg and did not have the emotional impact as in the first film. Also the switching of Lee's character from Martin Sheen to Robert Duvall I think was a major mistake made by the studio. After reading a few bibliographies of Robert E. Lee I think Sheen portrayed him more accurately than Duvall. This of course is just my own opinion. One small item which made Gettysburg superior over G&G was the musical score. To me the music in the first film made the film what it was and gave more emotional moments a bigger experience. Finally, to me, nothing was more emotional than Richard Jordan's dying speech and Pickett saying to Lee (after the charge), "General, I have no more men!"

Did you really just complain that Robert Duvall was cast as robert e lee? seriously? did you know that Robert Duvall is Robert E lee's great grandson? Sheen was a terrible choice compared to Duvall.

reply

The problem with the film wasn't Duvall or Sheen. The real issue with GandG was the big budget cost, which I'm sure led to decisions to make it more female friendly. Gettysburg was a war movie. (Flawed in its own way because of the use of extras that were, to put it kindly, too fat and old to be realistic.) This movie added too many scenes that dragged out the film. Chamberlin's issues with his wife could have been handled in one brief scene with a letter. The entire plot with Jackson and the little kid was just dumb, in the context of this movie.

It's never been made.

The third book in the trilogy is The Last Full Measure. And it's very good.
