Last Full Measure?

The first film, "Gettysburg" was near perfect in it's script and production. This film as originally released has 3 flaws.

1. It is too "preachy", especially on the Confederate side.
2. The editors deleted all the John Wilkes Booth sceens. *
3. It takes about 45 minutes into the film to introduce the characters from the Union side.

#2 was corrected in the recent "Exctended Cut' on Blu-Ray. The inclusion of the Booths story truly helps the story flow.

I also believe that #1 and #3 would have been made easier to accept if the third novel "Last Full Measure" was filmed as I believe that novel focused more directly on the Union side and introduced US Grant.

Although this film has flaws if you enjoy civil war history you will find yourself forgiving it's flaws and enjoying the sheer quality of the production.

Flawed, but I like it, still haven't seen the Extended cut, want to though. Would love to see the third part made, too bad it won't be.

They should do a TNT tv mini-series as this whole trilogy should've been done in the first place.

Update years later since you made this post.
Stephen Lange who played Stonewall Jackson in this movie and General Pickett in Gettysburg was speaking at Gettysburg Battlefield this year and said they are making The Last Full Measure and he will be playing Robert E Lee in this one.
But I've yet to see any information online about the project anywhere. Perhaps it is in the very early stages.

That would be great if it actually happens but I am skeptical. Lang was great as Stonewall though, so if it does happen it would be awesome to see him tackle the role of Lee.
