Remake/Reboot/Sequel

Apparently it's happening, and I have no idea why.
There is potential in a sequel, set 10+ years later. Maybe Naota has young kids and can't really relate to them when -- surprise surprise -- a familiar alien house keeper bursts back into his life.

But this sounds like it is going to be a reboot, and I'm afraid they are going to take the Medical Mechanica/Space Pirate plot and really flesh it out. Which would be pointless. FLCL, I hate to sound fanboyish, is perfect. It cannot be remade. There is nothing about this show to "reboot." It's art, it moves like a well written novel, the music (which almost never stops) is inseparable from the animation.. I could go on and on.

Again, I'm not totally against a sequel, even though I'm not sure it'd work. But it wouldn't offend me. A reboot? One of the worst decisions I've come across in a while.

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

Sounds fun

Medical Mechanica vs "Fraternity" – is this going to be FLCL meets Diebuster? The first episode of Diebuster is full of FLCL callbacks.

I think FLCL is perfect as a standalone, but I'm certainly interested to see where this goes.
