Serge Livrozet

Watched this movie the other night and was impressed; especially with the direction and acting. Was interested in the actor who played Jean-Michel (Serge Livrozet) and did some research; only to come up empty-handed! Google and IMDB searches have proved fruitless: for an actor of this age-group you would expect to see quite an extensive filmography, n'est pas?

It would seem that Livrozet, a real-life former crook, is chiefly a writer and socio-political activist whose role in "L'emploi du temps" (for which he received a best foreign film supporting actor award in the US) has been his only major film appearance to date.

This, translated from the French Wikipedia:

"Serge Livrozet is a French writer, born 21 October 1939 in Toulon. He is well known for campaigning against maximum security imprisonment and the death penalty and for his involvement in minority and anarchist movements."

He isn't an actor, at least not as a career. The best approximation in American crime terms would be that he was once a "connected guy" (mobster, although that's a more vicious term), a con artist, and has used his considerable intellectual abilities to reprogram himself as an author, cultural celebrity, and activist.

As an actor essentially playing himself in this film, you have to take off your hat, he dominates the screen. The scene where he pulls the truth out of Vincent is perfectly played.

yeah he was awesome :)

reply

Agreed. He was so extremely good, I am sorry he is not in more movies.
