Best Norwegian Movie?

Do people from this country consider this the best?
Is it the first Oscar nod for Norway?

...But it's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty in the world...

reply

Perhaps not the very best, but pretty high up on my list.
And, no, it's not the first Oscar nod for Norway.

reply

Explorer Thor Heyerdahl actually won an Oscar for best documentary for his film about his Kon-Tiki expedition. It is displayed in the Kon-Tiki museum in Oslo. Also Nils Gaup's Ofelas (Veiviseren, Pathfinder (USA) was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

reply

Nah, Flåklypa Grand Prix (Known as Pinchcliffe Grand Prix in English) is the best Norwegian movie, by far. I guess Elling is number 2, though.

Insomnia is by far the best norwegian movie I have ever seen. It’s much better then Elling.

reply

Det va nån artige ting i filmen. Æ syns den skulle ha vore lengre.

"Work In Progress" Dolph Lundgren
The Punisher

reply

Just for the heck of it, here's the five best Norwegian films I know of.

1) Flåklypa Grand Prix
2) Insomnia
3) Elling
4) Salmer fra Kjøkkenet (Kitchen Stories)
5) Ni Liv (Nine Lives)

Elling rules. yeeh boys

>Norway for sure<

reply

Oi, what about Pathfinder? (Veiviseren)
That's probably the best norwegian action flic ever..

reply

Veiviseren is not as good as people say it is, it might be a 6/10.
They call it action, but it's more like drama. There are only two actionscenes in the whole movie, and they are not very exiting.
But Elling is truly the best Norwegian movie ever.

reply

If you're looking for a Norwegian action movie I'd suggest Orions Belte (Orions Belt). Closest thing to Norwegian action I've seen.

I think both "De dødes tjern" and "Villmark" is worth mentioning. Two great Norwegian movies, both scary as hell. Henki Kolstad is great, and I must say that Kristofer Joner might be the best Norwegian actor ever. "Veiviseren" is also on my list over great Norwegian movies. Hopefully the list will be longer now that Norwegian directors seem to get better. Sweden has been way in front of Norway for years when it comes to films, so Norwegian directors has a lot to learn from their neighbours.

Flåklypa Grand Prix (Pinchcliffe Grand Prix)... it's so great. My nr1 for sure. It doesn't matter if you're 9 or 90 years old when you watch it (kids of all ages as they say). I just don't see how we can top this movie.

Some other greats IMO:
- De dødes tjern
- Elling (this first of the two so far)
- Uno
- Ni liv (nine lives)
- Detektor
- Insomnia
- Salmer fra kjøkkenet

Well, that's what is so great - you don't have to like them. I still think some of the ones mentioned earlier is worth checking out, "Nine Lives" truly has a remarkable (and true) story. Flåklypa in particular is held in a very high regard among most Norwegians... never heard about anybody having panic attacks because of it before..

As for the movie "En dag til i solen", I haven't seen that one, but I've seen some of Hamer's works. It doesn't really seem like the general public shares your point of view on that one though.

'En dag til i solen' - are you insane? It's not even the best of Bent Hamers movies. 'Eggs' and 'Salmer fra kjøkkente' are much better.

'Flåklypa' is the only film ever made in norway that deserves a 10/10(Terningkast 6). Are there anyone who agrees?

reply

I can't believe that 'Hawaii, Oslo' isn't mentioned! It's great

-My ass may be dumb, but I ain't no dumbass ^_^

Reprise - one of the best movies i have seen i last couple years. Watched it last summer on European Film Festival in Palic, Serbia. I took me 2 days to recover from that film. Well maybe that is just me and my curent metal and emotional state but that film is great.
