Is it true that the americans are going to do a new version of this marvellous movie??? No! I don't want that to happen. Just try to imagine Elling speaking with an american accent...brrr... I'll get nightmares. Please tell me this is just a rumour!

Hey Americans don't rip-off every movie--only the best ones--and we do come up with some excellent films of our own, don't we? Besides isn't imitation the highest form of flattery? I agree that the remake will not be as charming, nor as heartfelt but most people have never heard of this movie in the states due to the U.S. movie industry having a strangle-hold on the theaters. Yeah it's total B.S. but what can you do, that's business. At least it may spread the story to the average joe who will find out it's a remake and view the original and see what an excellent film it is. I hate how people try to pigeon-hole Americans as if we are all just a bunch of ignorant *beep* who are on a power trip, trying to convert everything so that it's ours. What it comes down to is economics. If some dumb-ass producer thinks he can squeeze two nickels from some foreign film that was fantastic or some movie made decades before that everyone knows but hasn't seen then they will. I agree it is an awful way to make art. Its like selling prints of famous paintings which can never capture the true essence of the piece but those prints however, allow the everyday person to view something extrodinary, something they might never have had the opportunity of seeing without it being remade. Also, in this day in age--a global society--evrybody takes greatness from each other, we would be foolish not to, so what's the big f'n deal?

reply

Amen... a remake will not hurt the original at all. Dont watch it if u dont want to see it. But for those who would not have seen it otherwise, a remake makes this great story available to them as well, and perhaps bring more followers to the original. I hate when people complain as if a remake destroys the movie they love so much. It can only help by bringing more awareness to the story, but cetainly cannot change anything the original has accomplished. Please people, give it a break.

reply

Haha, I agree the film was fantastic, but I have to comment anytime someone says something is "breathtaking". I enjoyed the film a lot, but I cannot say my breath was ever "taken". I also agree with tigerslam, a remake will only give the film more coverage, just be happy it's being recognized. Besides, then you can be the *beep* in the conversation that says "oh but have you seen the original?"

reply

Besides, it's just a more eccentric version of the odd couple anyway ;) Loved the film though, if you haven't seen it go out there and get it done! And if you have seen it, watch it again!

I agree. I wanted to celebrate after I watched this. I laughed loud enough to wake the neighbors. A few times. I fell in love with this movie.
