Is 'Graduation' REALLY any way to end this series? You be the judge.

Although I haven't actually seen GRADUATION in its entirety, I've been disappointed with the word of mouth regarding it.

First and foremost is the overuse of the "Sidekick saves the day while Heroine gets demoted to damsel" gimmick, which began with SINK OR SWIM. That's been done so many times throughout the series, there's no longer any suspense as to whether or not the world will be saved. The suspense is in wondering whether Kim herself will actually get the chance to do so--also, whether her wits and resources will extricate her from mortal peril--before the "Hand of God" does. After all, since the series bears Kim's name, it's no fun watching her get upstaged by her family (friends, guest stars) in almost every other show of the series. At least, not unless the end of said episode complements the proceedings.

------------------
Here's an example:

Suppose, at the end of GRADUATION, Ron--having become the Supreme Monkey Master, to "save the cheerleader (Kim) and save the world" from those evil aliens--is recruited (right in front of family and friends) by other, good, aliens to keep their planet safe and free from the Lowardian Empire. Get this: The leader of these good aliens is a dead ringer for Kim! She talks and behaves like Kim, and looks like her...except for her Drakken-blue skin. So does Ron's fear of being separated from Kim after graduation come true, sort of. But Kim just wishes Ron well and blows him a kiss, calling after him to "send a postcard!" After all, there's no way she could protect the world as well as the Supreme Monkey Master...right? Naturally, the planet in question just happens to have a shortage of naked mole rats, so they need Rufus to breed and save the species from extinction. And so, in an homage to THE MATRIX, we pull back to a long shot of Middleton; then we pull back further, to an even longer shot of Planet Earth; THEN Ron, with Rufus in his pocket, literally flies out of Middleton and off into space to meet his destiny. Also, being Ron, he wastes little time introducing his alien hosts to the Naco.

Later, at the post-graduation beach party, Kim gets another hit on her site. Instead of responding to it, however, she recruits Felix to handle it. After all, Kim points out, "You're better at everything else than I am, so I'll just retire from saving the world and tutor Bonnie for her GED." When she mentions how Felix repeatedly rescued her and Ron from Motor Ed, Felix argues that was just the easy part...thereby proving Kim's point. With a smile and a shrug, he taps a button and his high-tech super-wheelchair transforms into a mini-jet plane. This makes things easier for Wade, since he'll never need to wrangle a ride for his new day-saver-for-hire. After Felix soars off to fill Kim's shoes, Senor Senior Junior takes his place on the volleyball court...having proven himself useless at helping Bonnie with her makeup-studies. When Kim steps in to assist her longtime rival, Bonnie is deeply touched; they walk off into the sunset, arm-in-arm. "Bonnie, after four years, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." (An homage to CASABLANCA.)

Over the end credits, as Drakken (and Shego)'s former colleagues discuss his (and her) reformation and full pardon by the UN, Felix and his super-wheelchair burst into the room. He thoroughly cleans all their clocks, trashing the room in the process. Finally, in an homage to THE NAKED GUN, he calls back to them: "And don't ever let me catch any of you guys in Middleton!"
------------------------------------------------------

So, what do you think...better or worse than the GRADUATION script they actually used, or about the same? Thanks for your feedback!

It was to sickly-sweet for me. Like nothing EVER BAD happens! I hated the end, Kim and Ron go in a car and kiss and then ride of in the night together? LAME!

I agree that it was a little too perfect but this show was never about being realistic and if it had ended with Kim and Ron taking a break or something like that it would have contradicted what the show is about. And Drakken's last line, "it was a tuesday" was perfect, the only thing I'd change would be having Shego at the cofee shop too.

"I saw Saw 2."
"I saw Saw 2 too."

Personally, I LOOOOOOOOOVED Graduation! I liked it so much more than 'So the Drama', and I thought it did a great job of wrapping up the series while still leaving plenty of options open should the series ever be continued (Please God, give us a theatrical movie, I beg of You!)

I think because I can relate much more to Ron than Kim (not saying that she's a poor character), I was all too happy to see him step up and subsequently grow up. Ron's character has finally matured from a boy into a man, and though I think this might lead to a bit of tension in Kim and Ron's relationship (Kim ain't 'on top' anymore, so to speak), I think that once she comes to accept that, they will complement each other as they never have before.

Plus, Drakken <3 Shego, awwww

Also:

Ron: C'mon, Dr. D. When life hands you lemmons-
Drakken: I COMPLAIN ABOUT THE LEMONS!!!

...and

Warhok: Denile. It's not just a river on the planet we now control.

I dunno, I just though everything clicked quite perfectly, and though I hope to high heaven they make one last movie (keyword: for THEATRES!), I think that episode, coupled with pretty much all of season four, was the best way to end Kim Possible I could have hoped for.

Sorry you don't feel the same way.

I was going to put an anti-crack message here, but the website said it was too long.

It's not the end of the series guys. Stop analyzing.

I did like the Grease tribute at the end though. XD

Hello.
I hope you dont mind me asking but how do you know it is not the end?
Are you just saying this?
Or did you see this in an article or something like that?
Please and thank you.

Check the episode list on IMDB.

Plus NO-ONE ever said this was the end.

you are so right. when ron "stepped up" he not only achieved a new level as a crime fighter, but as a man. kim would have probably become jealous. we've seen episodes when kim was upset that ron was getting more attention.

remember the team go episode where they thought ron was so brilliant? kim acted like a spoiled, jealous little girl.

had they stayed together, they probably would have broken up over time but would have remained friends.

I have a few problems with it but overall I liked it better than StD and ASiT.

-There should've been a bit more Shego and Drakken
-I agree, Shego should've been at the shop
-Other villian reactions to Shego/Drakken together
-Doesn't John DiMaggio do Motor Ed? He should've gotten a few lines!
-the Monkey thing was over the top I think. Kim should've at least beaten one alien!

Off the topic:
Did anyone notice all the cameos? Monkey Fist as a statue, Camille Leon, Gemini and Adrenna Lynn. Plus all the other main badguys.

khaosjr, you got it wrong. The point of the Ron-rampage wasn't to show that Ron actually is way stronger than Kim and that HE should be the main character from now on. The point was to finally confirm that Ron wasn't just a funny, clumsy sidekick - he had much more in him.
I agree that it was a little overkill, though. ;) In my opinion, they could've ditched the blue flares and all that (I guess it was a hint that HE was the Great Blue, but whatever). Anyway, as a Ron-fan, I really liked that he stepped up when it really mattered.
khaosjr, your version of the ending of Kim Possible was too serious. FAR too serious. I'm not saying it's not any good, just that your ideas wouldn't have fit at all in such a light-hearted and humouristic show.

I liked "Graduation" on the whole. I agree with Volleygirlsg that Shego should've been in the final café scene, though. She might be my second favorite character in the series... maybe because Nicole Sullivan is her voice. =)

unlike "so the drama" the show didn't really know whether or not that was going to be its last season...so they kinda rushed the finale...but honestly it was aight...some funny ass jokes...and i like how ron was the hero...mostly b/c outside of monkey fist the dude really never ever did anything...so they just went w/ the super happy ending...either way im glad i got a few more episodes of my favorite show that i should have been wayyy to old to enjoy

I was hoping that like, they would really close up the series.

You know, Kim goes on to being in the secret service.

Rufus becomes a professional animal rescue trainer.

Ron becomes the headperson of Bueno Nacho.

Monique goes on to be a huge fashion designer.

Alex gets a surgery from Kim's mom and gains the ability to walk again.

And at the end of the episode, have a bunch of pictures of like, Kim's and Ron's wedding day. Pictures of grandchildren, future missions, you know stuff like that.

Maybe a little unappropriate for a kids show, but have Kim's tombstone shown.

Kimberly Anne Possible
1980-2050.
Beloved mother, sister, grandmother, daughter, best friend, wife, and saver of the world. And, just like the old saying "Anything is possible for a Possible".

R.I.P. one of the greatest shows ever. =(

reply

@_@ Only seventy years old? That's sad.

Anyway, I wouldn't have like it to go THAT far. That would be just...too much to handle. ESPECIALLY for a kids show.

What I would've loved is if they had gone with one of their original plans, in which Ron and Kim go off to college, say their sad goodbyes, only to discover that they're attending the same one.

"Bye, Harry!" said Hermione, and she [...] kissed him on the cheek.

reply

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I WANT MORE KP!!!!!!

reply

Maybe they'll do some movies in the future, but the series is definately over. Because UNLIKE Nancy Cartwright other cartoon show, atleast KP is going out, while it's still a popular cartoon, and not as a shell of what it used to be.

reply

I liked the ending.
Of course we all knew it'd be a happy ending. However, I like how the handled the actual graduation. I know for my graduation I was scared out of my mind. A lot like how Ron was. I didn't want to graduate, the prospect of the future was insanly scary. (And it still is.) And I really love how they showed that in a character. And they showed it a lot. Ron wasn't nervous, he was terrified, and I really respect the choice to do it. Often when shows have people Graduate, everyone is happy the whole time, and that's just not real.

So I liked the show.

I'm not one to think too much unless I can't get to sleep. I have noted these things but love the show too much to let my dwellings or someone else detract from a terrific show. One can over think these type of things if you have the time. I applaude the creators of this show for creating a classic teen adventure and would love to see the show continue with Kim making a career of putting the bad guys in jail.

reply

I don't know really, it was too much sugar here at the end. Personally, I think they should make another movie (like So the drama), and it should concentrate on tensions between them (how Kim doesn't like Ron to be somewhat better than her, etc.) and not the all-too-sweet ending.

In less words: they should make a movie and break them up at the end (with a really sad closing song, like 4000 rainy nights by Stratovarius or something). Then I would be delighted.

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly.

knowing KP's character, she likes to be 'on top', but since ron saved the day, she shouldn't be as happy with it than they showed. so i'm just being realistic.

Despite the things that I wasn't entirely happy with in 'Graduation', that final kiss between Ron and K.P. was perfect. It hinted at the right amount of steaming passion to satisfy a more adult audience, whilst not showing any direct smut for the younger viewers.

reply

"Graduation" was a terrific way to end the series! I was so amazed by Ron and so proud of him! He finally used his powers to the fullest and I was glad to see Ron fighting back rather than creating a diversion, running away or taking being labeled the 'sidekick'. We got a conclusion to everything from the previous seasons. And we got cute little Hana Stoppable along with Ron and Kim in a romantic relationship. It was a very natural transition from best friends to boyfriend and girlfriend. And I appreciate how careful the writers were not to mess up their relationship.

"Sure... fine... whatever."

reply

if it had ended with Kim and Ron taking a break or something like that it would have contradicted what the show is about.

True. Daria and Tom broke up in the finale of 'Daria' but then again, nobody liked Tom, the writers included.

I would've liked an epilog showing what happened to the characters after they reached adulthood. Plus I'm not crazy about the idea of Shego and Drakken getting together (I'm glad it was more implied than anything.).

reply

I thought the ending was excellent EXCEPT that after Ron saved the world his pants should have fallen down.

I also could have done without the "Grease" send off at the very end.

reply

I just finished watching this on Youtube, I never saw 'Graduation' prior to this. I thought the ending was cute but I Was a bit disapointed, at least with "So the Drama" you could of just concluded everyone was going to go on with their normal lives, only Kim and Ron are dating now. But this ending just leaves so many things up in the air.

What happens to Kim, where does she decide to go to college?

Does Ron ever get into one? Do he and Kim decide on the same one?

Are they still going to save the world?

What about Drakken and Shego? It was hinted they had a thing for each other but do they ever get together?

They were being awarded with a medal, so do they decide to stop being evil and start being good guys?

What's going to happen to Wade?

I say there needs to be a movie an offical ending to the ending.

Mufasa was a fuxking diva, Mufasa was the shxt, Mufasa was RAWGR!!!

I was really annoyed at the Kim and Ron coupling, I liked them much better as friends. Shego was my fav character, would have liked an ending with a bond between her and Kim, a tribute to their friendship in Stop Team Go
