who submitted this piece of trivia?

"Val Waxman is blind while watching the dailies, which is a reference to the fact Woody Allen, who plays Val, has (deliberately) never watched himself on film, even during the dailies."

Perhaps they'd like to explain to me how exactly is a director supposed to make a film without ever looking at dailies? If Woody Allen's character is in a shot with another actor or actress, Woody Allen won't watch the take incase he actually see's himself on film? That's totally and utterly stupid. Of course he's watched himself on film. And what about the editing? Does he sit behind the screen with earplugs on so he can't even hear the audio of his own performance, and ask the editor how good his acting was in a take? What about the premier? Does he show up to be photographed and then go home? Someone should remove that piece of trivia because it's idiotic.

Report it, let them decide.

i'm not to sure how involved he is with the editting. In fact, on some movies you know he had little work on the editting because he used such great editors.

the trivia is wrong however because Allen claims to not watch his films after they are finished and released. Meaning he probably does see dailies and work prints,

He's even reshot a few films after not being happy so He Must be watching something to come up with that.

reply

In Allen on Allen he says that when he's finished the film, or at least when he's got a pretty solid work print, he'll invite close friends and family over and they'll watch it. I don't think he watches dailies though. Not all directors do.

reply

Woody Allen watches dailies. Anyone who doesn't think so... well, I feel sorry for you...

reply

Woody does not watch HIMSELF ACT, in dallies. I'm not sure if he watches them at all or not but when he made September he threw away the whole film he made and started from scratch, he must have noticed something was wrong while watching dallies.

I am not the Zodiac. And if I were, I certainly wouldn't tell you.

reply

He films it, he hands it off to the editors, he releases it.

He does not watch himself on film.

There are other directors like this too. (Can't remember any, sadly).

reply

He DOES watch the dailies. He is actively involved in the editing process for every film, every scene. Even if he acts in it.

Once the film is done he won't watch it again, ever. He goes to the premieres but refuses to watch it again. He usually says to the audience before the film screens something like "I'm going to grab a bite while you watch the film."

For anyone interested read Eric Lax's book "Conversations with Woody Allen"

Makes sense.

reply

This is wrong about the film too. Val Waxman does not go blind "while watching the dailies". He is blind before the shooting starts.
